Anthony Fauci said Thursday that the omicron variant will likely be dominant in the U.S. in "a few weeks" and warned of the possibility of hospitals being overwhelmed this winter.
He added, though, that people who are vaccinated, and especially those who have their booster shots, will be "relatively well protected, at least against severe disease," saying he is most worried about the unvaccinated.
The omicron variant "will assume a dominant role very soon, I would imagine within a period of a few weeks to as we go into January," Fauci, the government's top infectious disease expert, said during an event hosted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation.

Yesterday this variant was said to be quite mild, so today Fauci changed again and hospital stays will be required?
The hospitals have YET to be overwhelmed by Covid. It never happened. Makeshift hospitals stood empty.
We've heard this every few weeks for the past two years. Covid, ventilators, ICU, etc. etc.
If hospitals and politicians were really that concerned about capacity they wouldn't be setting policies forcing out thousands of staff.
I wish Fauci was more definate in his prediction that hospitals will be overwhelmed...given his track record on accuracy it would be a great sign that they won’t be.

Hospitals always have their highest occupancy rates during the Winter months. Also, these are the months with the highest death rates (as always)

Hospitals don’t need to expand capacity as much as the medical community just needs to treat early outpatient to keep people from needing to go to the hospital in the first place. It’s fairly easy & cheap to do, too.
