The Holiday Bowl between the North Carolina State Wolfpack and the University of California Los Angeles Bruins was canceled Tuesday due to a COVID-19 outbreak within UCLA’s program, ESPN reported.
"We are extremely grateful to the Holiday Bowl, students, fans, sponsors and the people of San Diego for their support this week," UCLA athletic director Martin Jarmond said in a statement. "We are deeply disappointed for our young men in the football program that worked extremely hard for this opportunity. My heart goes out to them. The health and safety of our students will always be our North Star."

The Holiday is a mid-level bowl game, I think. It’s tied to a team from the Pac-12 and some other team. I think UCLA was third in the Pac-12 this year.
At least it’s one of the older bowl games, and San Diego is a better place to be just before the New Year than someplace in Wisconsin, say.
The year BYU won their “mythical” Natty in 1984, their bowl game was The Holiday Bowl. They beat a 6-6 Michigan team.
Lemme guess, the latest "Snifflecron Variant" that's treated with Nyquil.
Can’t teams with a player shortage just go to the transfer portal and pick up some loaners for the bowl game? Surely their booster clubs can arrange attractive endorsement deals that would attract some premium players.
College football has jumped the shark. Shut it down.
“our North Star”
Drama, drama and more COVID drama!
Guns up.
Probably one of the weakest “National Champions” in college football.
No, they were by far the Weakest. Florida would have killed them.
If one team can't play, the other team advances to the final. If both teams in a semi can't play, the other semi becomes the final. If three teams are out, the last team standing is the champion.
I don't think they've said what will happen if none of the teams can play.
A college bowl game scheduled for Phoenix has also been cancelled. Central Michigan . . . ? According to the radio report bowl organizers tried to find another team to fill in but were unsuccessful.
If one team cancels they lose by forfeit and the other goes to the championship game
If two teams in one CFP game cancel the other CFP game is the championship.
If three teams cancel, the last one left is the champion.
If all teams cancel the title is void for this year.
Chances of college football playoff happening now at 50%.
I’d love to see Covid protocols crown the Bearcats champion this year. A savvy gambler with a bevy of very enticing, loose, Covid infected young ladies could fix this championship.
I can’t argue with that. They are the weakest I’ve ever seen. I can’t compare them to teams before my time.
Holiday ROOOOOOOOHOOOOOOHOHOHOOAD
I care nothing about sportsball, but I believe this is intended to punish Joe Sixpack who likes to watch college football because the NFL has become a train wreck of cultural Marxism.
Thanks.
Big deal. Dead sport.
Going golfing.

“Why aren’t they postponing them? ....”
Right - not only the schools losing big-time but all of the many small businesses who are prepared with necessary inventory, extra workers, etc - they will all take a major hit.
Postpone it for several weeks.
I think the bowel committee would have to delay things until after the super bowl?
