Could Genetic Genealogy Provide a Lead in JonBenet Ramsey Case?
Forensic Magazine ^ | January 05, 2022 | Michelle Taylor

Since 2016, investigative genetic genealogy has made its (explosive) name solving cold case rapes and murders that were previously considered unsolvable. The identification of the Golden State Killer was the case that put IGG on the map, and is also arguably the most infamous to date. But a recent statement from the City of Boulder and the Boulder Police Department has people wondering if IGG can solve an even more well-known case that captivated the nation 25 years ago and still today—the murder of 6-year-old JonBenet Ramsey.

“As the [Colorado Police] Department continues to use new technology to enhance the investigation, it is actively reviewing genetic DNA testing processes to see if those can be applied to this case moving forward,” the City of Boulder said in a statement on the 25th anniversary of Ramsey’s murder.

Although genetic genealogy is not specifically referenced, it is one of the great advancements in DNA testing and analysis since 1996. Next-generation sequencing is another, as well as the development of equipment like the M-Vac collection system, for example.

In the Ramsey case, the Boulder Police say the department has worked with the Colorado Bureau of Investigations (CBI) to ensure the DNA in the system can be compared correctly with new DNA samples that have been uploaded to ensure accuracy. In fact, CBI says it has updated over 750 reference samples with the latest DNA technology. That DNA is checked regularly for new matches.

As of December 2021, the Boulder Police Department says it has processed more than 1,500 pieces of evidence related to the murder of Ramsey. The Major Crimes Unit has received, reviewed or investigated more than 21,016 tips, letters and emails, and detectives have traveled to 19 states to interview or speak with more than 1,000 individuals in connection to the crime.

Ramsey was 6 years old when she was reported missing on Dec. 26, 1996 after her family found a ransom note inside their home. That same day, her body was found in a basement room of the house, and an autopsy the next day revealed the cause of death to be strangulation.

The case became a media sensation overnight due to a number of factors, including Ramsey’s participation in youth beauty pageants, her family’s wealth and suspicion, and the fact that her body was found inside the family home. In subsequent years, the police cleared Ramsey’s parents of wrongdoing through DNA testing. But even 25 years later, most people can vividly recall what the blonde-hair, blue-eyed little girl looked like in her pink dress, red lipstick and beauty pageant crown.

The Boulder Police have asked anyone with information related to the Ramsey investigation to contact the tipline at 303-441-1974, BouldersMostWanted@bouldercolorado.gov or Northern Colorado Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477) or www.nococrimestoppers.com.

it would be great to see this case resolved. I am fascinated by this dna geneology tech. Truly amazing.

I didn’t read the whole article; is there unknown DNA on JBR?

Thanks to the Boulder, CO Keystone cops back then, do not even think that anything will ever come of this case. And today, Boulder is more concerned with rainbow flags on churches, 1,000 recycling cans (for all sorts of things) in every restaurant, and other woke crap than trying to solve a family murder. We’ll find Jimmh Hoffa’s body long before that crime will be solved.

The brother did it by accident. The dad covered it up so he didn’t lose both kids. Mom went crazy. The retarded story if the small foreign faction played well with the idiotic Boulder DA.

Next case.

DNA genealogy technology is amazing. Using, essentially the same techniques, I was able to confirm that my father was adopted and was able to identify, with high certainty, his true father.

Obviously some DNA since the parents and the son were cleared using DNA.

Could Genetic Genealogy...

No. Jon Benet's murder is tied into child trafficking which is a big part of the deep state.

For there is nothing that will not be revealed....

got it and good point.

I’ve seen a couple of cases where they connect the perp through ancestry and also they can draw a very accurate picture of the person based on the DNA. Truly fascinating.

I always thought that the brother was up to some version of no-good with respect to this.

On the surface of it, I really didn’t like the vibe coming
out of that family on the surface.

Living out your dreams or future financial hopes on a child
that age like that angers me considerably.

What solid parent would teach their kid to be so focused on
good looks to obtain a positive self-worth.

Just disgusting.

I use to believe the same thing until I read several books and other sources. I really don’t think that it was the family for a number of reasons. They actually had two suspects but both have since died.

The Son killing her does not fit with Ramseys behavior after she was dead. I can’t say what a parent might do if one child killed another but I can say what they would not do.

They would not make a garot and strangle their dead daughter, put tape on her mouth, molest her with a paint brush and then leave her body in the basement. They also would not have the presence of mind to write a five page ransom note which included movie quotes. Last but not least they would not ask for a relatively small ransom, normal people would ask for a normal ransom like 1 million. Who ever wrote the note was asking for an amount they knew the Ramseys had in the bank.

There was an excellent article in the New Yorker about using genetic information to track down people using their DNA. The woman’s name is CeCe Moore. She found the father of the husband of a friend of mine.

If the link doesn’t work just duckduckgo the name - cecemoore

I'm completely with you in your way of thinking.

On the other hand, I don't think enough attention was paid to the housekeeper and her husband.

Silliness. A kidnapper is doing all that, on Christmas eve. And sits down at the kitchen table with paper and pen he gets at the house, and THEN writes his 5 page ransom note?
Please...
And why write a note at all? If it was a kidnapping, you come with the note or send it later.
If you accidently kill her, why leave the note if you leave the body in the house?

The Dad set up the “crime scene” to cover for his son. Then they flew away as fast as they could. Patsy went along with it but it ate her up inside. And the brother, smirking through that interview.

He did it, the parents hid it.
