Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has braced himself against America First Republicans who oppose renewing his Senate leadership position after the 2022 midterms.

While at least two GOP Senate candidates have publicly stated they will oppose McConnell’s leadership bid in the new Congress, McConnell told CNN on Tuesday he will wait to “see what happens” after the midterms before crowning himself leader.

There needs to be an expiration date placed on Senators the moment they are elected. MITCH is way past his optimum time.

It’s beyond time to go Mitch.

You didn’t lift a finger the help Trump the last time, and
like it or not, he was helping the nation.

Get the _ out.

If the majority of R’s, old and newly elected, are sworn in as America First senator, then ABSOLUTELY Mitch needs to go. For the sake of the party, anyone like Mitch who sleeps with the enemy CCP doesn’t need any leadership position.

The Republican party will not survive McConnell serving one more majority leadership term.

I hope somebody more aggressive (and younger) gets it. I don’t know who that would be, alas.

We have a gerontocracy going on here, folks. And while a lot of Freepers may be older, we haven’t spent our working lives in The Swamp, so we have a little more perspective.

I think there should be term limits...that would be the most effective reform ever. But all of the Golden Oldies would oppose it and they are precisely the ones bringing us down - and precisely the ones who have control and would never let term limits happen.

I'm not McConnell's biggest fan, but I really don't get the push among folks here on FR to get him replaced as GOP leader in the Senate.

I mean -- is there anyone on the GOP side who could actually accomplish what we'd like to see from this Senate?

McConnell prides himself on being called a master Parliamentarian strategist who knows all the arcane rules of the Senate.

The question will be whether McConnell would be a "take my ball and go home" Senator if he loses the majority leader role and declare "you won, you figure it out," or will he support the new majority leader by still offering his knowledge to his replacement?

Now that hurts, shining a light on just how sorry our current crop of GOP senators are.

Term limits should exists in the voters heads. Once the drive is not as intense it is time to remove oneself from the leadership office, if one cannot live without the top office, they are probably not suited for leadership of just 50 to 66 people who have a common goal, success of the unitied states while representing their constitants view points 1st and the party line 2nd. The Whips are the the future leaders of the senate. The republicans sat on a lack of leadership talent from 1996 - 2008. Nickles, McConnell and Lott are simply not the examples we need 10 years later, all were to tight with DC party structure as a whole. Need some more senators regarded as assholes as Whips. Mike Lee can certainly count to 61 and shove people words right back at them.

Donald L. Nickles (R-OK) 1996-2003
Mitch McConnell (R-KY) 2003-2007
Trent Lott (R-MS) 2007
Jon L. Kyl (R-AZ) 2008-2013
John Cornyn (R-TX) 2013-2019
John Thune (R-SD) 2019-present

Democrats problem is their Whip has been a mentaly handicapped crook from IL since 2005. Dirty Dick Durbin. If he would have clued in the leadership the votes were never going to be there, this pillow fucking last 5 months in the senate would have not been wasted.

How many years will it take to totally and completely destroy the United States of America?

That is how many more years of failure they want. And they will get it.

Case in point right now. They are preparing to send America's men and women. Your [the general Public's] sons and daughters, husbands and wives, brother and sisters to die defending Ukraine's borders and they refuse to protect the border of the U.S. Where is the out rage?

Interesting points. The problem is that nothing seems to exist in the voters’ heads...we never really seem to feel in charge of or even responsible for electing or continuing these people.

But you’re right, the whips are the most important, and we never ever think of that (probably outside of FR, most people don’t even know who or what they are).

Great post, thanks!
