“16 shots in 30 seconds with a bolt action rifle?”

He borrowed Lee Oswald’s Mannlicher–Carcano and magic ammo. Easy peasy.

“Mawhinney fired 16 shots, every one of them a dead-on headshot, single-handedly bringing the enemy attack to a screeching halt”

That would do it

Its Hathcock. He wasn’t the deadlious but most persistent and
killed some homeless from incredible shots. Killed a NV sniper named Cobra who was looking for him by shooting him clean right through his telescopic scope.

16 headshots in 30 seconds. So we know he’s a good shot.

Later in the article, they recount another incident where he shot sixteen times at the same guy - who got away.

Talk about lucky.

“The M40A5 did have a detachable ten round magazine.”

Wasn’t the original M40 a slightly modified Remington 700?
