I'm not clear whether this is new or simply more blatant consolidation of Democrat control over BLM. In 2020, the Biden campaign was working with BLM and other groups riding the coattails of BLM, using SEIU president
Mary Kay Henry to help coordinate strikes and riots such as the
Strike for Black Lives. Meanwhile Meena Harris, niece of Kamala Harris, was helping her aunt and BLM cofounder Alicia Garza do fundraising for the
Black Futures Lab, a Chicom-connected outfit. These are just two examples of a pattern where BLM works hand-in-glove with leading Democrats. That said, BLM leadership likely exhibits the same internal factions as the Democratic Party and the left as a whole. The Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism (CP offshoot) was discussing a possible merger with BLM parent Freedom Road Socialist Organization/Liberation Road in 2020 and expressed solidarity with certain elements in the Democratic Party such as the Squad in the House and Bernie Sanders in the Senate. They're more in alignment with the latter than with Biden or Clinton, but they'll fall in line with a Popular Front strategy when the orders come down to do so. But who's giving the orders at the top is the interesting question.
