If US soccer, after this settlement, is obligated to keep paying them, the team will go bankrupt or they’ll be forced to ask the Men’s team to take soy cut.
The women’s team brings in drastically less money.
Whiners. That high school boys’ team that kicked their asses didn’t get paid a dime.
I played CYO basketball, I didn’t make the high school team.
One evening as a Senior, I went to the YMCA to play ball.
A top NCAA all American female was there and I had to match up with her.
She was around 6’2” 190 I’d guess.(big assed black girl - very nice though)
Anyway I thought it would be embarrassing to me as she would make me look bad.
I absolutely shut her down and scored at will.
I didn’t realize until then the true disparity between male and female sports.
My understanding is that their gripe was they performed better internationally but were paid less; I doubt they brought in nearly as much money as the men did (in terms of ticket sales, merchandise and such). I’ve seen their international games played in empty high school-size stadiums; looks like a couple of dozen friends and family in the stands.
I don’t know the accounting gimmickry involved, but it may be that they were paid more than men as a share of revenues (but the total compensation paid was less).
Who actually watches women’s professional soccer???????????
This is about the national teams, not the professional leagues (I believe the women are on their third one of those, after two miserable failures) - and I don’t think anybody watches the women’s national team, either.
Well if they want to try out for MLS, in which they would not make a teen development team, by all means go ahead.
Maybe if they played in lingerie, like the women’s football team.

The 2019 Women’s World Cup generated $130 million in revenue. The 2018 Men’s World Cup generated $6 BILLION in revenue. And FIFA is proposing $60 million in prize money for the next Women’s World Cup and $440 million in prize money for the next Men’s World Cup. It’s a joke that US Soccer is agreeing to equal pay...US Soccer gets a share of that global revenue for the men’s game and now are redistributing the much less popular women’s team.
The real issue was that the men bring in a lot more money. They are NOT equals!!
She went to a mostly white private female high school.
I went to the public dump in Wilmington DE.
It’s all baffling. The whole world has gone bonkers.
I remember the men’s and women’s world cup a few years back.
They were celebrating the fact that the women had drawn tv viewing of 1 billion people for their tournament, for 32 games combined or whatever it was.
That year the men’s final game itself drew over 1 billion viewers.
Women’s soccer team... Yawn. Men’s soccer team... Athletes who should play baseball.
Exactly; it is an inferior product which generates little enthusiasm (and when politicized, “negative enthusiasm”).
Next up: pay for WNBA players equal to NBA players.
I can’t imagine why people don’t want to watch women’s sports.
I say pay the women what the gate for women’s events can
support. It’s not management’s fault that fans don’t show
up for women, or they refuse to pay the same prices as if
men were playing.
If they are going to get paid the same, it means the money
will have to come from the men’s gate, to even things out.
That isn’t right.
Just don’t hold female events any longer.
That’ll fix it.
