BBC Kyiv correspondent James Waterhouse says a Ukrainian government official has given an indication of the breadth of the Russian military action so far.

The official says there have been cruise missile strikes launched this morning on Kyiv, as well as troop movements in Odessa to the south of the country.

Troops have also been crossing the border in Kharkiv, about 25 miles from the Russian border, the official says.

Early signs according to witnesses and government officials are that this is something quite large-scale, Waterhouse says.

There are also multiple reports from local media citing Ukraine's Interior Ministry which says some of the missile strikes have attacked Ukraine's military missile command centres and military headquarters in Kyiv.

Russia's defence ministry has denied attacking Ukrainian cities - saying it is targeting military infrastructure, air defence and air forces with "high-precision weapons".

Here’s a reported explosion in Lutsk. This is 75 miles inland in far western Ukraine. The opposite border of Russia… What does this have to do with Crimea/Donetsk in the east? 7) Reportedly Kiev has seen missile strikes as well. At their airports and military installations. Kiev is also on the western side of Ukraine. Also a city the US GOV have confirmed the US have built biolabs in. 8) Putin also continues to call it a “special military operation”. Says he wants to demilitarize and “denazify” the country but not occupy it. What does he mean by that? What is he really targeting? 9) Yes, I know he targeted airports and military capabilities; but if Putin really believes, as his admin has stated publicly multiple times, that the US are creating bio weapons at Russia’s borders, then this entire situation could be WAY bigger. 10) I’m not sure what is going on but in the past 4 months, Russia and China accused the US of creating bioweapons at their borders and none of us heard about and our media wrote it off as “disinformation” and largely didn’t report on it other than to call it a conspiracy theory.

I’ve not seen anything about Russians in Kiev. In my post #120 I noted reports of SpN in Borisopol/Boryspil, Kiev Oblast (east of Kiev, where the airport is). There were earlier reports two Turkish A-400s were in route to Ukraine. Now reports they have landed at Borispol to evacuate the Ukrainian leadership.

The Russians did deny they planned to invade Ukraine. Then they invaded. So lying about territorial ambitions isn’t exactly foreign to the Russians (or most anyone else*, for that matter). And both the Baltics and the ex-Warsaw Pact countries were Russian oblasts in name and in deed. So to say they have no interest in these areas - that’s what I’ll call an interesting point of view, just to be polite.

* I understand - if you’re going to attack someone, it helps if he’s unprepared.

I’m not Chinese and have never been a Chinese citizen. But I’m not sure why it would worry me that people whose kin are from the Balts and Poland might end up with Russian instead of EU passports? Their American passports are perfectly adequate for most purposes. The only issue is FATCA, which gives the world travelers fits if they want to be open bank accounts overseas. EU passports are a workaround. But any non-US passport would do the trick for bank account openings. The thing about an EU passport is access to local medical insurance programs, if you become a long-time resident.

You have really revealed your colors right there in your statement. You are not an American patriot and you are no friend of Trump, either, as Trump made it clear that Russia is no friend of the US at present, under Putin. It isn’t “Deep state” verses “America/Russia.” The deep state, if anything, has been accepting information and donations from Russia (and China, and Iran) to undermine Trump, and Russia has also been working overtime to prevent US pipelines, as well as European and Israeli trade in oil and gas. China likewise would prefer to keep shale oil flowing to the Pacific for their refineries rather than see it piped to US refineries in Illinois or the Gulf states. There is no moral equivalency or warm and fuzzy common cause between America and Russia, no “America/Russia” regardless how deep the deep state goes, especially when Russia has been donating to US politicians that support such corruption. I am surprised you were sloppy enough to phrase things that way, months ago you would have been more careful, so as to not disturb and alert your following to your nature. I hadn’t pictured you as a big city resident, would not most of the Russian nukes fall on large cities and military targets? Do you live in North Dakota?

I am in a ski resort about three hundred miles from any plausible nuclear target so I feel a bit on the safe side in terms of radiation, in terms of the breakdown of civil society that might follow a large-scale nuclear exchange, I have ideas of what to do and where to go. I wouldn’t sit around here waiting for the hunters to raid my pantry.
