Pedro Gonzalez: The People Of Ukraine Were Sold The "False Hope" Of Neoliberal Internationalism, And Now It Is Getting Them Killed
Real Clear Politics ^ | Feb 25, 2022 | Tim Hains

TUCKER CARLSON: So what's interesting, as you watch people like the man we just interviewed flee the capital city of Ukraine, is how quickly huge parts of that country seem to fall in the face of the Russian invasion.

That makes you wonder where were its defenders, not just within Ukraine but the United States?

People you've been watching for years now have been encouraging conflict in Ukraine, of course, and saying we need to go all out to defend it. David Frunm, the Canadian who is everywhere, is telling us you are a traitor if you are not willing to defend Ukraine. He's saying that from the safety of his kitchen. Where was David Frum when this broke out? Why weren't they defending Ukraine? Why were the only pushing your kids to do it? A completely fair question in many conflicts they have encouraged oer the years, from Iraq to the present.

We thought we would ask that question to Pedro Gonzales, the editor of Chronicles Magazine, who has been watching this carefully, thanks for coming on.

Highlights:

“To understand how little accountability there is on the entire level of the American elite, you have to know this war actually goes all the way back to the Clinton administration, which reneged on its promises of [no] Eastward expansion and turned NATO into a tool of liberal imperialism, the kind of stuff that people like David Frum cheer on.

Then you have Obama comes along, who toppled Ukraine’s democratically elected government in 2014, and installs a rabidly anti-Russian one, cultivated by Obama’s top diplomat Victoria Nuland.

This is the kind of stuff David Frum and Bill Kristol love, although as you said, they never participate in any of the action.

Nuland, again, zero consequences. She was a player in the Russia-gate scandal and is currently serving under Biden at the State Department. And now these same people are now trying to browbeat Americans into another war, but they have lies and blood on their hands for Ukraine, for Afghanistan, for Iraq, and more.”

Even Tucker now has said-War in Ukraine is Putin's fault.

Carlson had changed his tune: “Vladimir Putin started this war,” he said. “He is to blame tonight for what we’re seeing tonight in the Ukraine.”

Even the staunchest isolationists after Pearl Harbor said, that now war has started, we must fight to win it, even though we still believed we were right.

It seems that he might have been “brought to heel” by his globalist bosses at FOX. I currently have no real opinion on the Ukraine situation other than that there is no clear US vital interest at stake in the outcome and that Biden set the stage for Putin’s action and goaded Russia into it.

Map for context.

You may not agree with your adversary's POV, but you are foolish not to take it into account.

Neoliberal Internationalism, that’s a new name for Globalism and it’s very descriptive. The key word is Internationalism, and it’s in the bones of people like Frum and Kristol. Ten years ago I cringed when people on our side called them conservative.

Thanks Travis. I looked at this NATO Expansion map a few days ago and I recalled something called the Peace Dividend from the early 1990s. When the USSR collapsed it was suggested that the MIC be defunded and that money be used for more beneficial programs. It actually made sense to me, but as defense lobbyists bought our congressman, that idea was flushed down the memory hole.

Vlad the Invader is a Russian would-be-Tsar?

We have nothing to gain from entering into this war.

What if Russia had entered into Serbia, when NATO invaded it in violation of international law. Would they have been justified?

Fortunately, they didn’t

This war is the war of a left-wing president trying to shore up political support.

I understand all the bad actors in this tragedy. And it is a tragedy but Pukin is brutal and ruthless. His logic for taking back Ukraine is not too far off from taking Alaska back. He’s flipped his lid. The first thing this country needs to do is throw out these idiots in charge. Then get back to an America that has balls of steel.

Even the staunchest isolationists after Pearl Harbor said, that now war has started, we must fight to win it, even though we still believed we were right.

If Russia had attacked the US Navy at anchor, that would be a relevant observation.

But that hasn't happened. Russia hasn't attacked America. Nor will it.

Watch for a false-flag cyberattack. Some US infrastructure will be shut down, and 'Putin's army of cyberhackers' will be blamed.

Cyberattacks were written into the NATO list of casus belli. Very conveniently, cyberattacks can be made to appear to come from anywhere.

David Frum was warmonger GW Bush’s speechwriter, gung ho for the Iraq invasion even though like Kristol and George Will, he never served a day in the military. Two of the main “sources” for the murderous nonsense about Iraqi WMDs were Cueball and a supposed Iraqi intel agent in Prague. Cueball had worked at an Iraqi chemical plant and lied that he was a scientist (he was a truck driver) who could see plant officials loading chem weapons onto trucks from his house when the place had a 12 foot high concrete wall around it. The “agent” claimed that 9/11 hijacker Mohammed Atta had met with the Iraqis in Prague - a total lie. These were both promoted by Mary Cheney’s father to get us into this needless war and pushed along by David Frum.

Western powers: we get to bomb Serbia.

Western powers: we get to invade Iraq on WMD lies, 100k+ Iraqis die, and never get sanctioned.
Also them: Russia gets sanctioned now.

Western powers: we get to bomb Libya on unproven allegations Gaddafi will attsck his own people with no sanctions later on. Also them: Russia gets sanctioned now.

Western powers: Obama/Biden gets to arm shady people in Syria & push Kurdish separatism.
Also them: Russia doesn’t get to do these things.

But chickenhawk trolls want to use Russia as a foil to try and egg Americans into yet another war they won’t fight in themselves.

Salon, 2/2/22:

“...The most critical events that have been airbrushed out of the West’s political narrative are the violation of agreements made by Western leaders at the end of the Cold War not to expand NATO into Eastern Europe, and the U.S.-backed coup in Ukraine in February 2014... in which an armed mob led by the neo-Nazi Right Sector militia stormed the Ukrainian parliament, forcing elected President Viktor Yanukovych and members of his party to flee for their lives. ...”
