Where it mattered most, Trump’s Texas endorsement didn’t get the job done
Washington Post ^ | Mar 2, 2022 | Philip Bump

It did not take long for Donald Trump to start bragging.

Less than three hours after polls closed in Texas, Trump’s political action committee released a statement from the former president.

“All 33 candidates that were Trump endorsed have either won their primary election or are substantially leading in the case of a runoff,” it read. “Governor Abbott and Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick have won in a landslide.” Then, an incongruous “thank you,” before he offered his congratulations to the winners.....

You’ll notice a few things off the bat. The first is that most of the candidates being endorsed were incumbents — 25 of the 33. In other words, most of the candidates Trump endorsed would have probably been favored anyway, given the advantages that accompany incumbency. You can see that more than half of the candidates endorsed by Trump were incumbents who earned more than 60 percent of the vote, generally a sign that the opposition they faced was not particularly robust. Seven of his endorsees were House incumbents who didn’t face opponents, a group for which Trump doesn’t really deserve credit.

If he wants to count those in his total then he actually went 33 for 34. After all, in October, Trump lashed out at state House speaker Dade Phelan (R) for not rolling over on election fraud claims. He pledged that he would target Phelan in the primary — but Phelan ran unopposed and won with 100 percent of the vote.

If that were the case, Deep State wouldn’t have to steal elections, would it...

We don’t need that newspaper to advise us on whether the job’s been done.

Of COURSE, it didn’t get the job done . . . the “job’s not done” until the Uniparty, RINO’s, and Deep State are totally exposed and neutralized. This is a good start, though!

What a fool. In the AG race, the little Bush RAN ON THE TRUMP PLATFORM. He even tried to go to Mar-a-logo and get Trumps endorsement.

Dade Phelan is a rep in the Texas House of Reps, not a position where Trump would get involved.

I don't know if Trump ever mentioned the guy, but if he did, it was in passing and Trump never made a real issue about Dade Phelan.

Since 2018, how many candidates (total of all their endorsements) that Pelosi, Biden, Schumer, Clinton, Harris, AOC, Waters, and Cuomo have endorsed against organized and funded opponents have won?

This is a lot of bla bla bla the gist of which is the Post will give Trump only 25 of the 34, as eight are incumbents, therefore Trump endorsement does not count. It’s like an argument I’d have heard from the boys on the back of the school bus in with grade. That level.

On Paxton, the remaining candidate they wont allow on Trump:

They call him scandal-ridden. That’s funny. I’m a Texan and I’ve never heard of these scandals until this primary. All I’ve heard re Paxton is that he gets the job done. He fought and won to get Trump’s remain in Mexico reinstated. He’s working harder than anyone in the country to stop the flow from the border

He appears on the conservative shows where others fear to go.

“Turns out that the best he could do was get Paxton to a runoff.”

With George P Bush.

The Post makes no mention of Louis Hohmert who showed up out of nowhere a couple of months ago to run against Ken Paxton. What? Reporting in TV ads that Paxton is in big trouble over …huh?

Then lo and behold, gohmert pulls 17% of the primary vote away from Paxton.

What was that?

Hmmm. Whatever it was, The WAPO leaves it out of this piece. That’s funny.

Gohmert won’t be a factor in the runoff. The WAPO will likely drop that follow up story.

Trump missed his opportunity to endorse Gohmert and West, backing RINOs instead.

Oh. Ya. BTW. this guy ran on closing the border. He had gone to Trump for endorsement which he did not get.

Does the WAPO speculate what would have happened if Trump had endorsed Louis Gohmert had had Trump’s endorsement over Paxton? Bush did not sling mud at Paxton. What was Gohmert doing in this race? Slinging mud? Taking 17 pts away from Paxton? Forcing a runoff? With a Bush no less.
