The condition of China's winter wheat crop could be the "worst in history", the agriculture minister said on Saturday, raising concerns about grain supplies in the world's biggest wheat consumer.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the country's annual parliament meeting, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Tang Renjian said that rare heavy rainfall last year delayed the planting of about one-third of the normal wheat acreage. read more
A survey of the winter wheat crop taken before the start of winter found that the amount of first- and second-grade crop was down by more than 20 percentage points, Tang said.

Russia is not going to have a good crop either because war always interferes with farming due to inflation and labor shortages. No planting, much less harvesting is going to get done in the Ukraine this season.

Hungary has banned exports of grain. BTW, I have been there a lot and they are a big agricultural country. It’s one of their main businesses.
Given the astronomical rise in energy prices and shortages of natural gas, fertilizer is becoming much more expensive and shortages are everywhere. There are projected declines in in harvests throughout South America. If things are already bad in China, which will buy all they can on the open market and drive up prices, or if there is a drought in China or India, real famine with all the associated social, economic and political disorder will follow. We had a billion dollar snow yesterday. About 5.5 inches and it was very wet. This should help as the wheat breaks its dormancy.

Maybe they thought they would be done by planting season. They are far north of where I am, so I am assuming planting happens in late April. I haven’t asked the Ukrainian Farmers Almanac. /s
