The condition of China's winter wheat crop could be the "worst in history", the agriculture minister said on Saturday, raising concerns about grain supplies in the world's biggest wheat consumer.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the country's annual parliament meeting, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Tang Renjian said that rare heavy rainfall last year delayed the planting of about one-third of the normal wheat acreage. read more

A survey of the winter wheat crop taken before the start of winter found that the amount of first- and second-grade crop was down by more than 20 percentage points, Tang said.

Russia is not going to have a good crop either because war always interferes with farming due to inflation and labor shortages. No planting, much less harvesting is going to get done in the Ukraine this season.

The costs of fuel and fertilizer has skyrocketed so even the US is going to experience dramatic inflation in food costs by this fall. It won’t be pretty and clueless Brandon doesn’t even begin to understand how the dominoes fall.

Hungary has banned exports of grain. BTW, I have been there a lot and they are a big agricultural country. It’s one of their main businesses.

Given the astronomical rise in energy prices and shortages of natural gas, fertilizer is becoming much more expensive and shortages are everywhere. There are projected declines in in harvests throughout South America. If things are already bad in China, which will buy all they can on the open market and drive up prices, or if there is a drought in China or India, real famine with all the associated social, economic and political disorder will follow. More wars.

The delusional dismantling of the fossil fuel and nuclear industries in the United States, Canada and Europe are directly responsible for this catastophre.

I clicked on the link and searched for “climate change”. To my surprise, I couldn’t find one.

Heck it looks to me that the Winter Wheat crop in North Texas looks pitiful this year. We’ve had a very dry Winter. Please tell me if I’m wrong so I don’t spread disinformation about it.

Unfortunately, you are correct.

We had a billion dollar snow yesterday. About 5.5 inches and it was very wet. This should help as the wheat breaks its dormancy.

The bag of flour that cost $1.19 at New Years is $3.39 now.

Easter cookies are going to cost a lot this year.

Maybe they thought they would be done by planting season. They are far north of where I am, so I am assuming planting happens in late April. I haven’t asked the Ukrainian Farmers Almanac. /s

Did you mean to say "no competition from Ukraine this year"?
