The U.S. needs to boost oil production to replace banned Russian crude instead of possibly looking to Iran or Venezuela, Rep. Kevin McCarthy told CNBC Wednesday. "Why would you take the billions of dollars you provide to [Russian president Vladmir Putin] and just give it to another dictator?," the House GOP leader said. McCarthy also suggested the U.S. could and should become a top global supplier of oil.

"[President Joe Biden] said at the State of the Union, 'buy America.' I believe he probably thought that, but no American energy," McCarthy added, referring to Biden's statement in his State of the Union address that led to rousing chants of U-S-A.

I think the government should check with the refiners. I doubt the refineries, which were retooled to take the light, sweet fracked oil, can still handle the more tar-like Venezuelan oil.

If the only sensible voice is Kevin McCarthy's, either scenario above will proceed as planned or unplanned. And all of this wouldn’t have happened had Trump not been deposed thanks to McCarthy and McConnell.
