House Democrats voted on legislation on Friday that would combat alleged anti-hair discrimination while there remains a war in Ukraine and Americans grapple with soaring inflation and gas prices.

The House passed H.R. 2116, the Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair Act of 2021 (CROWN) Act of 2021, 235-189.

Democrats overwhelmingly supported the legislation, and Republicans opposed the bill.

The legislation would prohibit alleged discrimination on a person’s hair texture or hairstyle that is commonly associated with a particular race or national origin.

House Republican leadership released a whip notice recommending a vote against the bill:

Federal law already prohibits disparate treatment of one individual compared to another based on race, color, or national origin, which includes grooming and appearance policies if applied in a discriminatory manner, rendering this legislation unnecessary and duplicative. • This legislation previous failed under suspension of the rules on February 28th by a vote of 235 – 188.

House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Jim Jordan (R-OH) said on the House floor ahead of the vote that Americans already cannot be discriminated against their hairstyle and that Congress should focus on pressing issues such as inflation, Russia, and rising gas prices.

The Dove company heavily pushed this legislation...

Crazy thought for the day. Ukraine is only a “crisis” for America to the extent we decide to make it one.....for us.

Not so hasty. I think what the Senate needs is an extended debate on the merits of this bill. Suspend various tax and spending bills, and various confirmation fights, because it’s vitally important that the Senate is kept busy on such matters until January 2023, when the new Senate can debate serious issues.

I realize that I’m repeating myself from a previous post on this topic, but...what if a Mexican chooses to wear his hair really long, in fact never cuts it at all and occasionally pours blood over it until the dried blood forms into a solid mat.

He’d be emulating the Aztec priests, an important part of his proud national heritage. I’m pretty sure he’d be covered by this law since it refers to “...hair texture or hairstyle that is commonly associated with a particular race or national origin”

Beards are coming, with or without a medical profile.

It's called pseudo-folliculitis IIRC. A number of mostly black soldiers were able to grow beards going back at least 40 years, when I was on active duty.

However, I never saw a black officer with a beard.

Long hair is a tradition among Native Americans, and why not? Sikhs are apparently allowed to wear their turbans on active duty.

It's all turning into a big, muddled pile of s$$t.

Black women are 1.5X more likely to be sent home from work because of their hair.

I've never know anyone of any of the 57 known genders or hundreds of colors to be sent home from work because of their hair.

(Wonder if Rome was as crazy as this in its last days.)

Dried blood could most likely be called a health hazard and not a protected texture LOL.

So sad that we even have to consider such weird things thanks to Dems.

AIDs is definitely a health hazard and it’s protected.

The fact that they punched out their co-workers had nothing to do with it!

“AIDs is definitely a health hazard and it’s protected.”

AIDs is a disease transferred by blood or body fluids. Blood, even dried, is a major hazmat concern.

And the Senate found daylight savings time the highest priority the other day. Silly season in both Houses.
