BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — State and county taxpayers will be asked to commit $850 million in public funds toward construction of the Buffalo Bills’ new stadium, which has a state-projected price tag of $1.35 billion, a person familiar with the the plan told The Associated Press on Monday.

The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the agreement has not yet been approved. The Athletic first reported the figure earlier in the day.

What will the taxpayers share when the build cost triples?

If the city doesn’t cough up big bucks for a new stadium> the “family-friendly” sports teams will leave.

The myth of economic boom around new sports stadiums. Sure, maybe, if the stadium is in use 365 days a year. For football, they’re in use, what, 10 times a year, maybe one or two more games for the playoffs?

Does anybody attend NFL stadiums anymore? On Saturdays (college football) fans will fill multiple 100K+ stadiums simultaneously.

Big Business partners with Big Government that’s how the system works and we believe that there’s some difference between the two big political parties.

They both put the “Chamberpot of Commerce” ahead of any principles “Conservative” or “Progressive”.

What a blatant “screw the taxpayer” deal. Most taxpayers will never go to a game. Many don’t care for pro sports or are thoroughly disgusted by the BLM-NFL.

This is a very old sports manuver.

Teams decry how the existing stadium is allegedly obsolete. Then teams want a subsidized new stadium built. The team threatens to move to another city.

People are told your city just isn’t major League or a major city without baseball, NFL football, NBA basketball, etc. There is prestige in having an NFL franchise. Yadda yadda yadda.

This is the oldest story in the book of sports stadiums being planned and built.

Yep

The taxpayer pays for the stadium.

The team gets to use it rent free.

The team gets all of the profits from the sale of concessions.

The Democrats always complain about corporate welfare and then these Democrat run cities pull this crap.

In cases like this the Democrats are the friend that holds the taxpayer down while the other guy rapes them.

Given a population of 886,000 for the Buffalo metropolitan area that is $959 per person.

Just reading a book on Huey P. Long. He would have loved this kind of graft. Of course, he and his cronies would have owned the companies supplying the labor and the materials.

Why are taxpayers on the hook for it?

Because the NFL is a Deep State lackey.

I’d be pissed if my taxes were being used to build a stadium for thugs to kneel for my flag and critizise my country.

F*** stadiums. They built a soccer stadium near Salt Lake City. The issue was put up before the voters twice. Both times it was shot down by a large majority. So of course the criminal govt found a way to do it anyhow and the taxpayers are still on the hook. B@st@rds.
