WASHINGTON, April 4 (Reuters) - Americans living in poorer counties died during the pandemic at almost twice the rate of those in rich counties, a study released Monday by the Poor People's Campaign showed.
"The neglect of poor and low-wealth people in this country during a pandemic is immoral, shocking and unjust, especially in light of the trillions of dollars that profit-driven entities received," said William Barber, director of the Poor People's Campaign, an activist group that aims to correct the United States' income inequality.

The poor are unequal. Their health is not up to par.
They don’t take care of them selves and thus are susceptible to the covid ravages

They’re unhealthy for the same reasons they’re poor - life choices.

Poor often caused by illness and age. The elderly in nursing homes as well as many in their own homes were most affected are usually on Medicaid or heading there and have pre-existing conditions.

It’s the fear of being experimented upon.

A simple and obvious question: did the “study” account for the obvious health-related factors such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, etc.? Sure didn’t seem like it, after reading the “article.”

“Americans living in poorer counties died during the pandemic at almost twice the rate of those in rich counties”
But paradoxically, people living in poor *countries* apparently fared better than people living in rich countries. Compare Covid mortality rates in India and Africa to those in Europe or the US, say.

Of course poor people died at a higher rate than rich people. First, the vast majority of the covid deaths occurred in nursing homes. It is common for older people in nursing homes to classified as poor or even indigent. Some because they have outlived their savings and some because the families have engineered their finances so tat they qualify for government payment of their care. Second, there are more of the “poor” than the “rich” and the “poor” tend to have higher incidence of high risk comorbidity such as obesity ( America is the country where the poor are fat and the rick are skinny”) and diabetes.

I guess Rooters is implying that we should kill the rich to make things more ‘equitable’.

There’s another possible reason no one has mentioned yet: hospitals were more likely to attribute a poor person’s death to COVID because of the subsidies given, even if the person did not actually die of COVID. Richer people will be covered by insurance that pays better than Medicaid, or paying out of pocket.

Many people have bad habits. Eating sugar and not moving will kill ya. I suspect the 'poor' have higher amounts of diabetes as a percentage.

Could careers make a difference? The people out working during the covid peaks were generally the service industry (lower paid).
The higher paid laptop class got to sit at home, have their food delivered to them, and avoid human interaction.

The poorer one is in the United States, the more obese they are.
Obesity is a potentially fatal condition, regardless of what all the "fat body positive" people sell.
