POC live in more urban environments where everything is more expensive.
Oh BS
A steaming pile. Just as authentic as “climate change”.
Why on $10 for asians? Author goes out of their way to point out a small difference in white people but ignores the glaring difference between black people and asians.
More anti-Asian hate from the Left.
There are more minorities renting government subsidized Section 8 housing. These landlords charge more for security deposits and tenant screening for obvious reasons. FWIW, my son just submitted a rental application and they charged him $100 and they want a $1000 security deposit.
They also have worse credit scores
Before I could believe this, I what to see the raw data, The sampling size, and the distribution of the satiistical analysis, and what was considered to be the raw ethic break down.
Next who were the PHDs or analyst who did the work.
Then most important who paid for the work to be done.
Always follow the money to find out how much bias is needed to get paired for the work
The only way a landlord could possibly know or suspect an applicant’s skin color is by their name. Nobody personally returns a rental application these days. It’s all done online. And the application cost is clearly stated on the listing.
Seriously BS. Everything is racists.
Yeah, I’m not buying this BS.
I know! I know!
Let’s compare apples to oranges and then shout racism!
BS is right when CBS is reporting this.
did zillow miss that part about the asians??
There’s a lot more white renters than black renters...black citizens comprise only 12% of the population...and whites are more widely distributed.
Many black renters live in urban areas where the rents are notoriously high, although many of them in these areas also live in subsidized housing where they pay much less. However, even these rentals are adjusted for local costs.
Many white renters live in lower-cost small-city or rural areas.
I don’t think this study is particularly meaningful.
I will say that once years ago...in liberal San Francisco...I was at a rental agency and saw a black couple with a much higher income than ours being brought a book with a different color binding. I remember this because the agent said to the clerk who brought the couple a green book (obviously better), “No, no, the red book,” which the clerk then brought out.
The apartments in there were the same ones we saw although they were a professional couple. We had virtually no income and wanted to rent anything we could afford, while they definitely had the money to rent a nice place but weren’t being shown any nice places. We bumped into them in one particularly grungy apartment and the wife and I were talking about what we’d been shown.
I was so upset later that I called some SF housing discrimination hotline and reported this...and then I got harassing calls from the realtor. However, I wasn’t the only one who had complained, and about two years later she was found guilty of steering and a host of other RE crimes.
So discrimination does happen, but I think this general statistic is meaningless.
Why?
Now, wait a minute. I think many blacks do spend more on rent. I do. They have terrible FICO scores.
This is utter BS!!!!
Eh?
Only thing I can think of is that Asians tend not to rent unless they are students which is where, once you find out they are students and often the entire shot is paid for the year up front, you do not have very high fees because you have minimal risk.
I’d like to think any variation attributed to race is really more accurately because of location and that if done per location they’d find the prices the same. If not, then that would be news and warrant investigation.
