I had ancestors that fought on both sides. None believed in slavery. None fought for slavery. None had slaves. I know that’s a fact from talking to my great-grandfather when I was little. All were Republican. From what he told me, there wasn’t a Democrat in the bunch. Most were dirt poor farmers trying to stay alive. According to him, my ancestors that fought for the Confederacy only joined after they were attacked for simply being Southerners.

The first Civil War was bad. The second one will be worse.

Where would the country be today without the South? To know that, look at where most of the North is today.

You've nailed it. This is why PC Revisionists attack the South by trying to claim "it was all about slavery" when the facts make it clear it was not. This is an effort to smear the South because the South has always stood for decentralized power, limited government, limited spending and balanced budgets. This is all anathema to Leftists. If only they can discredit the South then they can discredit all of the above.

Thus starting in the 1980s as that 60s generation was starting to gain ascendancy in their long march through the institutions, the 60s Leftists in Academia revived wartime propaganda that had long since been discredited - yes even in Academia itself - and have fanatically pushed this as though it were religious dogma ever since.

Without Woodrow Wilson, LBJ, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and the Bush's. Gee, let me think...

My ancestors from Northwestern North Carolina fought on both sides - even siblings fought on different sides and the reason they did so was what was promised to them at the time they joined. They didn't have a dog in the actual fight, they were dirt poor and looking toward what they could get if they made it through to the end.
