President Biden's Corny New Plan to Lower Gas Prices Has Some Problems

President Biden announced his latest supposed silver bullet to deal with inflated gas prices that reached their all-time high last month — more ethanol than usually allowed in American gas — during a speech on Tuesday evening in Iowa.

As usual, Biden's announcement was more about avoiding blame that explaining what his plan would do...because it won't do much.

Biden's decision to use executive authority to have the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) waive normal rules to allow grain-based ethanol mixtures of up to 15 percent in American gas supplies is, according to the White House, more action aimed at lowering gas prices Biden claims have skyrocketed due to Putin's invasion and greedy oil and gas CEOs. But there are more than a few problems with Biden's new plan.

First, the EPA typically restricts ethanol-rich fuel during the approaching summer months due to the increased pollution and smog its use causes. The U.S. Energy Information Administration notes that ethanol-gasoline mixtures "have higher evaporative emissions from fuel tanks and dispensing equipment" that "contribute to the formation of harmful, ground-level ozone and smog." So, Biden is ordering the EPA to abandon its mission to "to ensure that Americans have clean air" while cutting into America's food supply despite warnings of upcoming shortages.

More ethanol production doesn't equal less food on our table.
More field corn acreage planted for ethanol lessens acreage available for sweet, edible corn.

Not only corn growing subsides. The fuel alcohol production plants get a subsidy to make the alcohol. Then you got the issue as to where the fuel for the boilers comes from that is used in the plant to make the alcohol and dry the spent grain when it’s sugars are used up. All costs more than what it costs to produce and process crude oil into gasoline.

The Bucees in town has E0 for 40 cents more per gallon vs E10 there always is a 40 cent premium on it to discourage it’s on road use in DFW’s non attainment air quality zone. E0 is intended for boats and small of road engine aka SORE engines.

Also of note nation wide E15 MUST be sold in a dedicated pump with a blue hose and blue pump nozzle. Just likeE85 must be sold with yellow. Also E15 MUST carry a four inch by four inch dayglow orange label on that pump that states this.fuel for use only in 2001 and newer vehicles or flex fuel. It is a violation of Federal law to use E15 in anything but those two. This EO does not change that the fedgov is not replacing E10 in black line pumps this EO ONLY allows the existing E15 blue line pumps to see that fuel in the summer time that’s it no more no less. Read the actual text of the EO before hyperventilating as is typical for this forum people don’t read let alone read and comprehension skills.before the butt hurt ranting starts it’s like children being told to eat broccoli. If you don’t want to save twenty cents or so a gallon which is what E15 is priced at the blue pumps in my area then don’t use it. There is virtually no way to “accidentally” put E15 in a vehicle or engine not approved for it you would have to ignore the bright orange EPA mandated warning sticker, then ignore the blue pump line and handle then also ignore the pump button to turn it on with E15 big as crap on the button. If you fail to see all that then you probably shouldn’t be allowed to cooperate a potentially lethal machine in public as you lack the observational.and critical reasoning skills. Get a grip people it’s not the end of the world to waive a stupid EPA restriction on E15 for air quality when the same agency allows E85 year round. Don’t want to use it then don’t it’s that simple stop letting these people live rent free in your heads.
