Texas Gov. Greg Abbott ends immigration border inspections snarling traffic for trucks

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Friday repealed his traffic-clogging immigration order that backed up commercial trucks at the U.S.-Mexico border, after a week of intensifying backlash and fears of deepening economic losses.

The Republican governor dropped his new rules that had required all commercial trucks from Mexico to undergo extra inspections to curb the flow of migrants and drugs and ratcheted up a fight with the Biden administration over immigration policy.

Some truckers reported waiting more than 30 hours to cross. Others blocked one of the world’s busiest trade bridges in protest.

Abbott, who is up for reelection in November and has made the border his top issue, fully lifted the inspections after reaching agreements with neighboring Mexican states that he says outline new commitments to border security. The last one was signed with the governor of Tamaulipas, who earlier this week said the inspections were overzealous and created havoc. On Friday, he joined Abbott and said they were ready to work together.

When Abbott first ordered the inspections, he did not say lifting them was conditional on such arrangements with Mexico.

Pressure was building on Abbott to retreat as gridlock on the border worsened. The American Trucking Association called the inspections “wholly flawed, redundant and adding considerable weight on an already strained supply chain.” One customs agency in Mexico estimated the losses at millions of dollars a day, and produce distributors warned of empty shelves and higher prices if the order was not rescinded soon.

The Drug Cartels owe the Snowflakes, the democrats and the ‘RAT “media” for putting pressure on Abbott to let their trucks with their human slaves and drugs through the border checkpoints into ‘Refugee Kamp America’.

Abbott is still all talk, and no consequential action, on the Open Borders crisis.

Tucker Carlson has criticized Abbott in the past and has invited Abbott to come on his show at any time to discuss immigration.

Two days ago, Abbott appeared on Tucker, and Tucker allowed him to speak at length without interruption or criticism about the vehicle inspection strategy.

36 hours later, Abbott caves in, stops the inspections, and the massive border jump continues.

This is a fake news article authored by the Associated Press.

What he told Tucker: Governors of several Mexican states have either reached an agreement or are in talks with Texas to implement security measures.

Abbott put the inspections there because they were not doing anything about the border.

He got the rest of the agreements on Friday. This is incredible.

Biden is so inept that Texas is now creating “treaties” with foreign powers independent of the federal government.
Biden of course is flagrantly violating multiple court orders to reinstate Trump-era policies like “remain in Mexico”... Abbott is the one who is steppping up!

“36 hours later, Abbott caves in, stops the inspections, and the massive border jump continues.”

No he didn’t cave. What part of Abbott’s threat of long truck inspection lines in Mexico that caused the 3 bordering on TX, Mexican states to agree in writing to making every effort to prevent the entry of illegals into TX in exchange for a return to inspection normality, didn’t you understand?

If the 3 Mexican states don’t play ball and keep illegals in their states rather than crossing over into the U.S., lengthy inspections will begin again. It’s called economic leverage against Mexico to make them stop the continuous flow of illegals into our country. And it worked. All 3 bordering Mexican states signed agreements w/Abbott before he ended the extra inspections of Mexican trucks. Bravo Abbott. Well played.

This kind of reminds me of Italy a few years ago. When the mass migration from Africa was hitting Italy the EU was no help and Italy went from poor to poorer trying to deal with it alone. Now our border states are having to deal with federal issues with no help. Just ponder the bigger picture of what that means.

What used to be a routine border crossing turned into a 30-hour wait for some trucks. Meanwhile, the fruits and vegetables in those trucks spoiled, leaving some produce department shelves sparse or empty in advance of the holiday weekend, he said.

“It could take a week or longer, up to probably three weeks, before the supply chain realigns,” Galeazzi said.

In recent days, Abbott has met with the governors of the four Mexican states that border Texas, and reached agreements to cease the increased checks. On Friday, after meeting with the governor of Tamaulipas, Abbott said the commercial checks would end immediately.

The “financial pain” was a necessary consequence to “get the public to insist that their government leaders” take action to curb illegal immigration, Abbott said.

Texas keeps re-electing their Amnesty Senator Cornyn, so they must want this to continue.
