I watched a lot of Barney Miller when it was in first run.
Like so many TV shows, it was good entertainment, but almost every episode had some sort of “woke before woke was cool” message.

I finally got a chance to watch "The Princess Bride". There's a scene where the masked character is asked why he wears a mask. His answer is that it makes him look good and in the future everyone will be wearing masks. It will be all the rage.

didn't get a chance to watch Barney Miller back then but am catching episodes no on late night tv.....what a hoot....sophisticated yet lighthearted....

Yeah, I remember that episode even when it first came out. It all sounded plausible and stupid at the same time. But it’s sounding more plausible and less stupid with each passing day.
