The NYC subway shooter, despite disordered thoughts, bears responsibility for his crimes

Anyone who commits a mass attack has mental problems. Timothy McVeigh, the Oklahoma City bomber, probably did have post-traumatic stress disorder, and Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev probably was manipulated by his mastermind brother. The 9/11 hijackers also (apparently!) had disordered thoughts. Nobody ever says that he needed housing services. Like these other attackers, James knows right from wrong and action and consequence. In one video, he said that “I wanted to kill people” but “I don’t want to go to f–king prison.”   Should the FBI have zeroed in on the videos James posted just before his attack, when he used more menacing language, saying, for example, that “it’s time”?  Sure, but that’s law enforcement, not social services. Plus, James made no direct threats — more evidence of careful planning. It may be a good idea for social-services agencies to interact more with people like James. But there are a lot of such people: people on the border of society, with plenty of time to cultivate loony ideas.  Is New York City going to hunt each of these people down and provide him with an apartment and daily intensive counseling so that he doesn’t make a cross-country trip here to attack us?

It bothers me when people bring up McVeigh. I’m not here to
defend him, because he participated. There are things that
went on that don’t get much mention though.

There was plenty of government involvement in that case prior
to the act itself. I’m not saying the government set the whole
thing up, but they had informants that tried to warn them.
They ignored them.

One place, Elohim city had three different informants living
there. They all tried to warn the government that something
big was going to take place. One of them said they told the
government a bombing would take place in one of two places.
One of them was the Oklahoma City Federal Building.

I believe they named McVeigh also. (it’s been a while, and
I can’t remember every detail I used to know about it)

At any rate, there were others involved that vanished after
the event. Witnesses described at least one Asian man and
a German man if I remember correctly. What were their
roles in the bombing?

As with anything, there are disinformation specialists out
there, so you never know what is a lie and what is truth.

They rushed to shut McVeigh up. It was job one. They try
to keep everyone else alive, but McVeigh had to go.

I always found that interesting.

I think the guy would have mellowed over time and come
clean. They obviously thought so also.

he guy knew what he was doing and he planned it. So it doesn’t mater how disjointed his thinking is - his videos evidences he knows enough of right and wrong....and responsibility for what he does or doesn’t do.

The idea that people are not culpable because of their unbalanced mental or emotional state (insanity) is In the final analysis an inherently wicked concept, one which can only call into question the Lord’s justice when followed through to its “logical” end.

It’s crap too when dealing with mere human justice. It may affect reasonably what penalties are applied but if someone who is insane is criminal that’s more reason they should never set foot outside some institution again, not less. Assuming they didn’t do something worth of the death penalty.

“The guy knew what he was doing and he planned it.”

__

And the writer points out the obvious, you can attach SOME mental problems to all mass murderers. Still, it doesn’t mean they shouldn’t get punished

Well that’s just it. People make decisions every day and this guy did as well. I don’t care if he has issues with his own life in not getting what he wanted. I learned along time ago life is tough and along the way we get to enjoy some breaks from it - but overall it’s a climb full of obstacles and happenings. This guy understood that.

It’s high time we just started calling evil for what it is instead of writing off every evil and depraved act as mental or emotional health issues.

To those who are not consumed by evil, looking from the outside, it can look like mental illness, and I understand why people call things sick. The evil done does make one sick to see it.

But it is not necessarily due to a sick person as much as an evil one.

Too many mugshots reveal people with no remorse.

That is EVIL, not “sick”.

Trials should be simple:

1. What did you do?
2. Here is the penalty

No more liberal psychobabble.

No; it is NOT his fault!

Rich ride planes - they have air marshalls on each flight.

Poor folks ride subways - where is THEIR protection?

Sue the subway system for not providing adequate protection for it’s customers!!

Mr. James is a civic minded citizen who was conducting independent safety tests of NYC MTA systems smoke detectors, video cameras, and sound detectors readiness. I should also add Mr. James was conducting his stringent test protocols at his own expense.

All NYC residents should be thankful for Mr. James well thought-out testing methodologies which clearly demonstrated the NYC MTA is not prepared to adequately protect Its riders from harm. So join me in celebration of Mr. James contributions towards the protection of our underground transit system riders. Thank you Mayor Eric Adams for allowing the testing to proceed without interference from law enforcement which we all agree would have undermined the efficacy of Mr. James tests.

Yes, but he’s already been forgiven, and the incident has been classified as White shooter yelling racist curses. We will hear no more of it.
