Trump's statement does not make sense.

This war is about the long term, not the short term. Whoever wins will have control over these disputed areas for decades. For Ukrainian particular, the combination of surrendering a bunch of its territory and not being permitted to join a defensive military alliance means it is likely just a matter of time until Russia rearms, retools, and moves to gobble up the rest of the country. As Putin himself has stated publicly, he does not believe Ukraine is even a legitimate country or has a right to exist. So the Ukrainians uses as ultimately a war for national survival.

In other words, Ukraine rightly does not believe that Putin would abide by any agreements that were reached. Any security guarantees made by Russia would not be worth the paper on which they were printed. Given that, they have no real incentive to agree to Russian terms.

Maybe the reason they believe Russia won’t honor any agreements they sign with Ukraine is because Ukraine itself didn’t honor the Minsk agreements they signed with Russia in 2014 and 2015. 🤣

They already agreed to an independent Donbass provinces back in 2014, the Minsk Agreements. The Ukies did not honor it.
That said, finally someone steps up, instead of the western war cheerleaders crying war, war, war, we are hearing peace.
By the way, Vlad is winning and like Trump, a powerful leader, does as he says. The Donbass will get their Independence.

“Given that, they have no real incentive to agree to Russian terms.”

Please, stop making sense.

I didn't even read all that you typed here, but what is your opinion of Northern Ireland?   Northern Ireland is the very same as the Ukraine - Russia question.

Defensive military alliance, that the US belongs to... ROFLMAO. How long have the NATO countries been at war around the globe? 21 years at least? Or maybe 34 years. Yeah, Iraq war 1, Bosnia, W O terror, and now in a proxy war with Russia. DEFENSIVE alliance that covers the entire globe. We would figure out how to defend China if need be.

Apparently President Trump is either unaware of, or has chosen to ignore the fact the Russia’s primary goal now is to secure the oil and gas resources of Ukrain in the east and around Crimea. THis is Putin’s main goal, deprive Ukraine of these fuel resources, and be able to further bleed Europe of energy costs. Russia itself has proven that it is so greedy and corrupt that it will not develope successful business enterprises to any significant degree. Rather almost all the wealth developed and gained in Russia has been by resource exploitation and disposal. They are lucky that they currently have enough fuel resources to maintain an economy, but those will run out so Ukraines fuel resources are an important backup in Putin’s mind.

I thought that the Larouch phenomenon was dead and burried, but I see they are still pouring out weird commentary. What is this about ISIS in cahoots with the Azov Nazis??? Oye Veh!
