45,000?? Why not 99,000? 🙄🙄
To: ChicagoConservative27
Frankly, you still can’t live in D.C. on $45,000/year.

To keep up with inflation, it should be at least one hundred and eleventy billion dollars

True. Its a very high cost of living area.
Mainly due to relentless government spending.

Are staffers the same as an intern?
Are these college students?

Thats true. I dont know how many work year round though.
When I lived in DC three or four would share an apt. But the apt they shared wasn’t cheap because the location they chose. Dupont Circle, Waterfront etc.

Hate to say but in this Pelosi is probably right.
$45k is $3750 per month or around $22 per hour and that’s about $2,000 after taxes and deductions.
It’s also the same starting pay as McDonald’s is paying in most DC locations.
Hard to attract decent staff if they can make more at McD’s and not get molested by their Democrat bosses.

Something doesn’t sound right......I worked for the DoD for over 30 years....I was making better than that a loooong time ago and I was just a low level worker bee.
At retirement I was making almost twice that.

Frankly, you still can’t live in D.C. on $45,000/year. That may be true, but that would only impact the working class clerks and lower level functionaries the Democrats believe are inferior because they lack education. So even if they can't afford to live on that...it's no skin of the backs of the D.C. elites themselves, is it?

I worked as a Congressional staffer from 1984 to 1986. They originally offered me $17,000 a year but I negotiated to $18,000.
Adjusted for inflation, $18,000 is about $49,000 in today’s dollars.
