45,000?? Why not 99,000? 🙄🙄
To: ChicagoConservative27
Frankly, you still can’t live in D.C. on $45,000/year.

Are staffers the same as an intern?
Are these college students?

Hate to say but in this Pelosi is probably right.
$45k is $3750 per month or around $22 per hour and that’s about $2,000 after taxes and deductions.
It’s also the same starting pay as McDonald’s is paying in most DC locations.
Hard to attract decent staff if they can make more at McD’s and not get molested by their Democrat bosses.

I worked as a Congressional staffer from 1984 to 1986. They originally offered me $17,000 a year but I negotiated to $18,000.
Adjusted for inflation, $18,000 is about $49,000 in today’s dollars.

Congressmen and congresswomen should be paid $15 an hour, live in dormitories provided by taxpayers and get the use of a free laptop and phone which the contents of should be public property.
THAT would empty the Swamp.
