A Russian political science professor has claimed the war in Ukraine could simply be a 'rehearsal' for a bigger conflict, allowing Russia's military to test and compare its firepower with that of NATO.
Alexei Fenenko, an associate professor at Moscow State University's school of world politics and a research fellow at the Institute of International Security Studies, made the incredible claim yesterday during a talk show on Kremlin-controlled TV channel Russia One.
'I think the war in Ukraine... is a rehearsal for a possible larger conflict in the future. We are testing our weapons against those of NATO, we will find out how much stronger our weapons are than theirs,' the professor declared.

Agreed. Calling BS on this one
“Tell the audience, sir, what lesson did you learn when you shoved your dick into that hornets’ nest?”
Putin, as he inserts his hand into the feeder: "I wonder just how destructive this wood chipper is..."
Regards,
Rumor has it that the Ruskie tanks have all been blowed up and they have run out of missiles.
Keep learning, Mr. Putin. Soon you wont have any army left ay all!
While it may be an interesting novel theoretical thought exercise to engage in, the proposition that Putin’s actions are to determine the feasibility of a war against US/NATO is kind of ridiculous. If anything that is far beyond tertiary, if at all, in his calculations.
No one in his right mind would entertain such an idea.
Not even CommunistChina with all their stolen technology is ready to challenge US military superiority (so far).
That’s analogous to Furman University’s football team saying it’s practicing to take on Nebraska while losing to Slippery Rock St.
all wars are classrooms, and field trials, because there will always be another one, somewhere.
Calling this one BS.
I first heard it on the third day.

Okaaaaay....
Given the high reported rates of attrition of Russian field-grade and general officers, I believe we’re seeing confirmed intel on the weakness of their NCO cadre and strong dependence on the officer corps for combat. Thus, taking out the officers leaves the poorly-led remaining forces as easier targets. This concept was clear small-unit doctrine for front-line NATO forces in the 70s/80s with guidance on identifying command vehicles for targeting. While the Warsaw Pact/USSR had the numbers for force-on-force encounters, the strategy to “cut off the head” was vital to reducing the effectiveness of the larger force.
It might be worth bearing in mind that the Soviet Union got absolutely humiliated by the Winter War against Finland, much like the Ruskies are in Ukraine. However, a few years later they steamrolled Nazi Germany when they were properly equipped and motivated (by the western allies).
Who is to say that China wouldn’t be willing to lend-lease them equipment to fight a proxy war against the west? China’s industrial capacity is already, like the US in the 1940s, the highest in the world.
Russia wouldn’t last a week against NATO, it’s a complete joke.
In the event of an attempt to do so, the US would cut China's sea-borne oil pipeline from the Middle East, and shut their economy down. Russian output cannot replace their needs.
16 - 20 “HOGS” could clean out almost all Russian armor in a couple of days!!
“Yeah great idea! This war is going so well for Russia, let’s take on Poland, Hungary, Germany, the UK and US at the same time!”
Actually more credible reports are saying that Poland is going to move some ‘peacekeepers’ into Western Ukraine with Russian approval, and then take that slice (which used to be part of Poland), for themselves. But first Russia has to finish off the main Ukrainian army in the east.
