No. Disband it entirely. It’s irredeemable.

The States should just throw them all out, they have no Constitutional basis of authority in the “Several States”

The author begins to get mealy-mouthed in the middle of the article — advocating breaking the FBI into smaller agencies rather than getting rid of it. Yes, just what we need — MULTIPLE instantly corrupt agencies to worry about.

Also, I’m not sure why congress would be needed to disband the FBI. It’s an Executive Branch extension of the DOJ. A president should be able to wipe them out by executive decree...

Where better to hide a criminal conspiracy than inside a “premier” law enforcement organization?

What needs to happen is REAL oversite by firing individuals who either are not doing their jobs or who are protecting establishment / connected individuals.

For that to happen, civil service protections need to be ended, with each employee being able to be fired by the President, and the president not being required to give a reason.

And get rid of Bush’s DHS as well.

9/11 demonstarted the need for better interagency intel cooperation but THAT did not demand or require creation of DHS.

Waterboad EVERY agent. I really want to know just how many are part of Hannity’s 99% rank and file that are honest.

I agree the best way to break up the FBI and purge it of its rogue elements is through the budget process.

The Best way to do that, is for Republicans to take control of the House of Representatives, where Budgets are put together. The problem I see, is that the FBI has too much dirt on existing politicians and can easily blackmail them and their family members. Still, if they do try blackmail, some of it will likely come out and further emphasize the need to break up and reorganize the FBI.

I also favor moving some of the intelligence agency headquarters to other parts of the country, just so they will loose a lot of staff. In particular, I like the idea of Dept of Justice moving its headquarters to the Midwest.

The FBI budget is supposedly around 9 billion with 35,000 or so employees they deign to admit having. Can’t really see anything happening to it at this point. That’s a 9 billion dollar dug in tick that knows a bunch of dirty laundry with lots of folks willing to go to the mat to keep it dug in and sucking. It was probably too late 75+ years ago to do anything about any of the alphabet agencies, which basically function as guardians of the bureaucratic establishment empire in DC in order to keep themselves and their families fed and living well for generations.

It’s hard for me to picture any modern politician getting rid of any alphabet agency or even reducing their budgets in the era of the 24 news cycle and media disaster porn. There’s just too many ways the agency can retaliate.

“Trevor Aaronson analyzed thousands of FBI cases and found that, “Of these defendants caught up in FBI terrorism sting operations, an FBI informant was the person who led one of every three terrorist plots, and the FBI also provided all of the necessary weapons, money, and transportation.””

YEP. The FIB instigates the plots, then finances, and entraps.

Part of the problem is that congress likes it this way.

The problem with breaking up the FIB into a cozen agencies is that they ALWAYS become bloated and inefficient and ALWAYS look to expand the power they have. So instead of one corrupt agency, we have a dozen.

Yes. Unnecessary.

It was created in a time when states and localities couldn’t coordinate the way they can now.

It’s no longer necessary.

But congress wouldn’t do this.

We need Maga to get rid of FBI, DHS.

There needs to be a lot of reform.

But a communist junta behind the scenes has control behind the unelected puppet.

.....lol, I was scrolling down until I found a post I could whole heartedly agree with.

PART of what needs to happen to the FBI is that a MESSAGE, loud and clear, gets sent to the remaining bureaucracies and all federal employees. The message being that “this is what happens when you sufficiently piss off the American people”.

Close it up and bulldoze the damn building. Then create 50 small offices, one in each state, no badges, no guns and rename the bureau to BOI (Bureau of Investigations).

When they need some muscle and guns, call the Sheriff!

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say it’ll never happen reform even though I don’t know if it’s such a good idea to break the FBI up into several different parts I don’t think that’ll really help the problem but I think these intelligence agency specifically collect and hold onto intelligence about members of Congress, former members of Congress and people that are in their radar for becoming members of Congress.
