A top Republican said on Friday that President Joe Biden is raising gas prices on purpose.
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) made the remarks when he was asked on Fox Business’s “Wall Street with Maria Bartiromo” to respond to Biden’s recent comments where he said raising gas prices is part of “an incredible transition.”
“I think that’s the main takeaway from his statement, that he is telling the American people they’re doing this to you on purpose, that the transition period is being imposed by policies coming from the Biden administration,” he said.
“This is a conscious effort by the Biden administration to destroy fossil fuel production in the United States, to get away from fossil fuels, and you’re living this experience. This is an irresponsible shutting down of oil and gas production in America, making us more dependent on oil and gas from bad actors, and it’s destroying the American economy,” he continued.
Biden characterized the soaring cost of gasoline in the United States as an “incredible transition” on Monday while taking questions from reporters during his trip to Japan.
“When it comes to the gas prices, we’re going through an incredible transition that is taking place that, God willing, when it’s over, we’ll be stronger and the world will be stronger and less reliant on fossil fuels when this is over,” he said alongside Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
The comment came as the national average cost of a gallon of gas sat at a record-high $4.596, with several states paying more than $6.00.
Biden went on to take credit for gas prices not being “even worse.”
“What I’ve been able to do to keep it from getting even worse—and it’s bad,” he said.
His comments were widely denounced by Republicans.
Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) criticized Biden for being “completely out of touch with everyday Americans.”
Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel released a statement the following day blaming the Biden administration for the continually elevated cost of gas.
“Another day, another new record high gas price in Biden’s America,” the statement reads. “Joe Biden doesn’t care about the historic inflation and skyrocketing gas prices families are facing every day as a result of his failed agenda. The pain is the point for Biden and Democrats, and Americans will continue to suffer as long as Biden is in charge.”
Biden and other senior administration officials have continually blamed Russia’s invasion of Ukraine for the inflated gas prices. In response to the invasion on Feb. 24, the United States and many of its Western allies put a halt to all imports of Russian oil and gas.
While the cost of gas did spike dramatically after Russia invaded Ukraine in February, it had already been rising steadily throughout Biden’s first year in office. After the sanctions, the price leveled off before increasing to new record highs in recent weeks.

Biden recently stated higher prices were a good thing.

Well duh. I figured everyone who’s paying attention knew this was an intentional destruction of the USA. Jacking fuel/energy prices was just the tip of the iceberg. Open borders with millions of criminals coming in unabated. Weakening the military by forcing the Marxist woke doctrine on them and elevating fellow Marxist freaks to positions of higher rank.
It just goes on and on. Taking away our rights is one of their main goals. We are dealing with the most destructive enemy we have ever faced. They are known as Marxists, democrats, RINO’s, globalists, and GOPe. All are working together to destroy America.
Please tell me everyone already knew this obvious agenda. How could anyone miss it?
Of course Biden is doing it on purpose. Obama, Hillary and Klaus Schwab told him to do it.
Yes; they have corrupted the entire election system and they have no intention of ever having fair and honest elections again. They don’t believe we are good enough or smart enough to elect our own leaders. They demand to appoint them using the corrupt system so we think we elected them to keep us passive.
Can you imagine what would happen if everyone knew the elections were all rigged for the last 22 years?

Pelosi said inflation was great because that meant people are buying/demand is high.

This is no secret. Pedo Joe said it himself.
He said it will take a while for us to become used to the high prices, but the reward of a Green Culture will be worth it.
I used to think he was nuts, but after hearing that, I am assured...he needs to be committed.
Butt-Head is the prime example of the Dunning-Kruger effect. He once bragged to a bunch of people, at a much younger age, that he was likely the smartest person in the room. In reality, it seems, he’s worse at using his head than I am at DIY home improvement projects, and that’s setting a pretty low bar.

I’m only surmising, but I think the majority of rank and file Republican voters (along with many of the few remaining semi-rational Democrats) have no doubt the election was stolen.
Don’t need a top Republican to tell me this, its obvious high prices are feature not a glitch in potemkin Joes agenda.
Remember, this is Øbama’s Third Term.
Remember the last gas price spike in 2009 (first year of Ø’s first term) when he said that the price didn’t bother him, only that it went up so quickly?
The “Green” raw deal has always been to make US gas prices equivalent to Europe’s.
That probably applies here. I don't think Biden has done it intentionally because it's going to end up biting him in the ass in the end. Nothing will get the dems rooted out of office quicker than these sky high gas prices, the public won't stand for it.
I think pretty much everyone in his administration is a climate change zealot and most aren't smart enough to realize that you can't declare war on the oil industry without driving the price of oil through the roof. They thought Biden would swoop into office, start regulating big oil out of business then magically everyone would be driving electric cars and taking the subway. None of them know, or care, how commodities trade works and they didn't have the foresight to envision how it would all play out.
