Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) argued Saturday that the focus in the aftermath of the shooting at an Uvalde, Texas, elementary school should be on the lessons learned from the incident instead of “finger pointing” at authorities.
“The second guessing and finger pointing among state and local law enforcement is destructive, distracting, and unfair,” Cornyn posted on Twitter.
He retweeted a post on Twitter from Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-Texas), whose district includes Uvalde, that included a Uvalde Police Department press release pointing to an incident in 2018 when the department identified what the congressman called “credible threats” to a local school and made arrests.
Cornyn said complex situations require “split second decisions” and it is easy for people to criticize actions in hindsight.
His comments come as the local police have faced scrutiny in recent days for their handling of the shooting that left 19 students and two teachers dead.

“Darn those pesky facts!”
Or in this case, 40+ minutes standing inside the school and just outside of the classroom where children were dying from a complete lack of "split second decisions ".
Does he not realize how completely foolish he sounds?
This makes me even more suspicious.
“Cornyn said complex situations require “split second decisions”
That’s the problem...there WEREN’T any split second decisions.....except for the BORTAC agents....if there had been a lot of kids might very well still be alive.
As, rightly or wrongly, one of the first to question the response by LE, I believe why this is such an issue for people is the degree to which the police response failed. At several key decision points, there was a failure to act in a manner that their doctrine called for and that they had trained for.
When all is said and done, this really was a failure of courage by multiple LE officers. I’m hopeful that they leave that line of work because it’s a stain that cannot be erased.
Ditto .
This evil man is alway up to something
Deserved? Brought upon themselves by their actions, or LACK of action? It appears LEO owns this, but I’ll hold my final judgement until all facts come out. Maybe OJ’s Dream Team of lawyers will defend LEOs.
I am VERY Pro-Cop, but these "leaders" were PATHETIC!!! And the fact that 15 MEN stayed in a HALLWAY while children were being killed in the next room, makes me sick to my stomach!!
Not ONE of them had the BALLS to buck BAD ORDERS??
He said there will be a time later when it’s appropriate to discuss their failings. You know, months from now when other things are happening. Typical GOPe trash.
Nothing says split second like standing around for 40 minutes in a parking lot with your thumbs up your ass with a bunch of other armed to the teeth gear queers while kids are being shot and bleeding out.
No, he has been on the wrong side of so many issues for such a long time, that sense of reality is no longer in his mind.
He is trained to follow the money and never listen to constituents.
Long ago, I called his staff on issues. It became apparent nobody who works for him care about who they represent. John is totally bought.
Split second decisions by police are mae in the training and forethought, not simply in the moment.
Cornyn is howling into the gale.
I hated every time I had to vote for this guy.
They fired Scott Israel.
“Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, is more important than that our officers go home safely every night. Lots of departments say this, but we live it.”
From the NY Times national Corespondent who got access to the Ulvalde training documents related to doctrine and training re: a school shooting.

Quotes:
“A first responder unwilling to place the lives of the innocent above their own safety should consider another career field.”
and:
“First responders to the active shooter scene will usually be required to place themselves in harm’s way and display uncommon acts of courage to save the innocent.”
When you read down into the response specifics, it’s just devastating.
Any LEO that failed to engage with that shooter needs to leave LE.

Yes, after McConnell and the rest of the RINOs
‘cross the aisle’ and vote with the Democrats on new Gun Control legislation for Joe to sign.
“Does he not realize how completely foolish he sounds?”
Nope. Not at all.
Don’t question Senator John “Wayne” Cornyn. He knows better than all of us. Just ask him and he will tell you so.
RE: Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX): ‘Finger pointing’ at authorities after shooting ‘destructive, distracting, and unfair’
Senator Cornyn, I am not pointing fingers, I am awaiting answers. But like Columbine, Parkland and others, it ain’t looking too good for the police. But time will tell.
By the way John, like most politicians at times like this, you sound like a politician.
