'You know who I am?': Congressional candidate Martin Hyde threatens cop's career during traffic stop
Update: Martin Hyde has since told Fox News he is still running.
Sarasota congressional candidate Martin Hyde appears to have ended his campaign against U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan. The move comes after Hyde received national media attention — and scorn — over a police body cam video of his actions at a traffic stop.
In a letter published by the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, Hyde apologized for his behavior. But he also made clear he will not be pursuing a seat in the U.S. House at this point.
“I am sorry because in a democracy without congressional term limits, I have taken away the opportunity for people to make changes in a stagnant system that rewards incumbency over innovation and true local representation,” he wrote.
“I was prepared to use my limited resources to mount a congressional campaign based on equity as opposed to elitism — which is the irony of the manner of my demise.”

The video of him is remarkable.
Martin Hyde has not announced an official end to his campaign, however, he took down his campaign website ElectMartinHyde.com. The domain has since been purchased and redirected to JoeBiden.com. Hyde has also shutdown his Facebook and Twitter accounts.
ElectMartinHyde.com came right up as his website.
Guy doesn’t know if he’s coming or going.
“Do you know who I am” is about as arrogant a statement can be. Whether GOP or Dem, that shows nothing but disdain for the law.
He’s a fricking idiot out for himself. He would enrich himself and screw over his voters.
It is what it is....Hyde stated exactly what was on his mind when stopped,,,,,what he said to the cop showed his true colors. Vote the bum out!
Trump endorsed his opponent Vern Buchanan.
based on equity as opposed to elitism. That statement more than his traffic stop should disqualify him as a GOP candidate for anything. Equity goes against everything the GOP stands for.

Hopefully that came AFTER Hyde’s supposedly-disqualifying issues.
Aside from the Miami-area RINOs — Gimenez and Salazar in particular — who vote with Democrats as often as they vote with Republicans, Buchanan is pretty much the squishiest member of the entire Florida delegation and there’s no reason for Trump to go out of his way to support Buchanan aside from “winning percentage” purposes. That district could do far better than Buchanan.
Given how much the media gloats when a Trump-endorsed candidate loses, I can see how he might feel a desperate need to “win” as much as possible even if it only means picking a candidate who was 95% certain to prevail anyway.
Speaking of Trump’s “losses”... in November, when (uh, I mean “if”) Brian Kemp loses to Ghettopottamus in Georgia, will the media call that a “win” for Trump? I suppose they might be that magnanimous, seeing as how the real losers are the good people of the state of Georgia and that’s more important to the media & other Democrats than some pyrrhic Trump win.

Anytime I hear someone say ‘Do you know who I am’ I know exactly who they are - a self absorbed, entitled little tyrant that will screw you over.
