I’m trying to figure out what I’ll do when I retire. I’m in my 70’s and plan to go into retirement at the end of the year. But I don’t know what I’ll do with my time.
I think my wife has plans for me.
I retired 2 years ago as a legal Assistant of 45 years and a personal fitness trainer of 14 years. Now I work part time as a Doordash driver and I am having a lot of fun with it.

That might keep me working for another few years no matter how much money I have saved up!
“I think my wife has plans for me.”
Beware of that trap.
The first year, I did a lot of stuff in and around our home. I got involved with church and other charities.
My wife had me for one day a month for “Honey Do This!”
One day a week, I fly fished from sunrise to sunset. I deer hunted and got an antelope tag and filled it.
Once a quarter, my wife and I took a vacation from local, time shares to cruises.
We had lunch or dinner at good restaurants, whenever.
Then, I did consulting the next few years. Air Travel became a real pia. 9/11 stopped the travel for me except seeing relatives.
My wife worked full time as an office RN until she was 70.
We put most her paychecks into IRA’s and she maximized her 401K.
Taxes and medicare costs were killing us and me. For every $ I earned, we put 2 other $’s into a savings acct to pay SS. Medicare, state and federal taxes.
Our CPA during one of our tax payment sessions handed my wife a Homer Bucket with fake money in it. She told my wife that was what we were doing with our taxes. So my wife could just sit in the back of my pickup and throw away real $5/bills from the bucket and drive down main street when I got home every Friday.. 9/11 and a doctor’s firm suggestion to slow down, stop traveling, stopped my consulting.
