Thomasville attorney Chris West won the Republican nomination in Georgia’s 2nd Congressional District, defeating former U.S. Army captain and Yale Law student Jeremy Hunt in Tuesday’s runoff election. With an estimated 98% of the vote in, West leads Hunt 14,608-13,853. Hunt conceded just before 10:20 p.m. but did not mention West by name in his speech. West, 38, won despite finishing second in the May primary and being outspent by nearly 10-1 by Hunt.
Hunt, 28, finished first in May’s primary with 37% of the total ballots cast and was the favored candidate of several national Republican politicians, carrying endorsements from U.S. Sens. Tom Cotton of Arkansas and Josh Hawley of Missouri

Maybe West isn't so bad. Anybody with insights?
This looks like a good win ... to face Spanberger
Prince William County Supervisor Yesli Vega is one step closer to U.S. Congress.
Vega prevailed in the six-way Republican primary Tuesday for the party’s nomination in Virginia’s 7th Congressional District, according to unofficial results from the Virginia Department of Elections. About 96% of precincts were reporting shorting after 9 p.m.
Vega will face Democratic U.S. Rep. Abigail Spanberger in November.
Vega received 10,731 votes, or 28.2%, across the district. She beat out Spotsylvania County attorney Derrick Anderson by 1,876 votes.
Safe dem seat normally (Urban Columbus, large black area). I used to live in that district.
In 2018 , Allen West’s brother Hermanwas the nominee in a losing effort, but some people who like Alan West might have thought this West (no relation) was Alan’s kin. That’s a guess, as I am no longer in the area.
“...Urban Columbus...”
-
Thomasville is about 150 miles from Columbus,
about 10 miles from the Florida line.
The district is very large geographically. Sanford Bishop brings pork for farmers. But the district also includes Columbus, which has as many people as 8 Thomasvilles.
Hunt had a chance to flip the district to R. With West the district stays D.
Bad result.
There was another headline on FR suggesting that something is amiss in Georgia’s election results. Perhaps in this case.
