Pennsylvania is one of the ‘least patriotic’ states in America: study

What, are there a bunch of redcoats in the Keystone State or something?

Pennsylvania is apparently one of the least patriotic states in the country, according to this one study.

Financial site WalletHub decided to find out what makes a patriot as the Fourth of July holiday nears. In order to do so, they first took a look at all 50 states across two key dimensions: “Military Engagement” and “Civic Engagement.”

From there they proceeded to grade each on sub-metrics such as “Veterans per 1,000 Civilian Adults” and “Share of Adults Who Voted in 2020 Presidential Election,” peppering in data from sources such as the U.S. Census Bureau the whole way through.

Based on all that, WalletHub found the following to be the top five most patriotic states in the nation (in ascending order): Oregon, North Dakota, Virginia, Montana, and Alaska.

“But where’s Pennsylvania?” You may be asking, as this is a Pennsylvania-based news site which typically writes stories on these types of rankings if the state breaks the top 20.

Alas, fair reader, this is a different type of study, for Pennsylvania didn’t break the top 10, or 20, or even the top 30.

Nope—Pennsylvania actually sits down below amongst the “least patriotic” states in the number 42 spot. This is only a smidge better than the bottom five least-patriotic states, which are Massachusetts, Florida, Rhode Island, New York, and Arkansas.

“There are many ways for an individual to demonstrate patriotism,” states Russ Crawford, a history professor at Ohio Northern University. “In the United States, individuals are free to be patriotic in whatever they want. That could be flying the national flag at their house, serving in the military, voting, and taking part in the political life of the nation, but also includes a multitude of other ways.

“If one chooses to show patriot by popping off on the 4th of July, that is fine. We have had times in our nation’s history when patriotism has been defied to require specific actions, but in contemporary America, we have the freedom to choose our own path.”

Oregon as the most patriotic? Get real!

The idiots at WalletHub apparently like Oregon's "civic engagement".

I’d like to know the other metrics.

PA had a really good turnout in the 2020—even the dead appeared in record numbers.

I guess that’s good to hear. Cause in my neck of the Pennsylvania woods, we’re very conservative and patriotic. Glad to know the rest of the country even more so.

You’ve got Pittsburgh, which is run by goofy socialist Democrats.
And then you’ve got Philadelphia, which is run by goofy socialist Democrats.

But in between Pennsylvania is a pretty nice, and pretty conservative..

In my neck of the woods I see lots of Gadsden flags and, shall we say, “variants” of “Let’s Go Brandon”.

VERY patriotic IMHO!

I don’t believe this. Outside of the big cities, we’re patriotic in PA. 🇺🇸

This is all based on some crappy, self-appointed leftist organization coming up with its own definition of what constitutes “patriotism”. It deserves to be ignored

Oregon is the most patriotic, Constitution loving land of the free, defenders of the Bill of Rights and the Pledge of Allegiance.

Any report that ranks Pennsylvania and Arkansas as less patriotic than New Jersey or Connecticut is a pile of crap.

Some of the original 13 states shouldn’t even be considered American anymore.

“There’s Pittsburgh on he left, Philadelphia on the right, and Alabama in the middle.” Heh. Here in so-called ‘Alabama’, we like it.

I grew up in a somewhat conservative suburb of Pittsburgh, but even the Democrats in the City were patriotic when I was younger. Probably dying off now, and probably became Republicans or moved... Pittsburgh is the capital of Appalachia, this is not Philly by any means. Yes, they vote Democrat in Allegheny County, but things aren’t always as black and white as the media implies.

I have no idea how PennLive survives in the T. By the way, that is where patriots still exist in PA. I’m glad that lightman still goes to PennLive since I refuse to go there. He does in penance by keeping votes legal, so he’s still a decent guy (lol).

"Oregon as the most patriotic? Get real!"

No doubt it's based on whatever Wallethub used to define the people who did "civic engagement", which may include mostly peaceful protests against white people existing.

Right?

The metrics are clearly nonsense if Oregon is one and Florida is in the basement.
