Russian President Vladimir Putin has claimed that the Western response to his war in Ukraine is pushing Russia and Belarus towards unification.
"Unprecedented political and sanctions pressure from the collective West is pushing Russia and Belarus to speed up the unification process," Putin told a bilateral forum in the Belarusian city of Grodno on Friday.
"After all, it is easier to minimize the damage from illegal sanctions, it is easier to master the production of demanded products, develop new competencies and expand cooperation with friendly countries," the Russian leader added.

You cheer on the expansion of NATO and the totalitarian EU eastwards but then whine when Russia does the same in response. Either you are being a hypocrite or an idiot - or both.
Is it a mushrooming deal ?
In German, that's called Anschluss.
The words say (roughly) "One Blood Should Be One Nation."
Doing it the old fashion Stalin way, kill the leader and move in. They really want a war with Lithuania and NATO. BTW, Sweden and Finland will be in the NATO camp by the time this is accomplished.
What does reunification with Belarus buy Russia except access to mor Soviet era military crappy hardware. Outside the AK 47 and missiles, Russias army is a paper tiger. Belarus won’t help much. Even with additional territory for Russia to strike from, Finland opens up 800 miles of a NATO border. This is not what Putin was gunning for.
If Putin’s about to die maybe Lukachenko is his successor.
The FR Russian Patriots will be thrilled.
What Putin makes/installs, Putin can uninstall at a time of his choosing.
The difference is that Finland and Sweden are distinct countries free to pursue the interests of their own people in a democratic system. Belarus’s toadie has outlived his usefulness and now the people of Belarus have to protest and die for another false dictator toadie.
LOL. I’m surprised that Belarus is letting itself be taken over by such a liberal country. It never really left the USSR 30 years ago.
Russia is literally absorbing more territory into Russia itself. They will no longer be sovereign, and will obviously not have the option to leave if they so choose.
If you don't see a difference there, it is only because you don't want to.
Nope. Putin played Lukashenko for the fool he is. Nikolai Patrushev is Putin’s choice to replace him.
Putin (dying cancer boy) is going to call an early presidential election for March 26 of next year (1 year early) and will not run and take steps ensure that Patrushev wins.
You are blaming them for circling the wagons to protecting their kids from incessant Globohomo indoctrination? …debt…moral decay…forced euthanasia jabs…nightly FBI raids…
Sovereign nations voluntarily joining a military alliance vs. imperialist expansionism by force.
You really don't understand the difference?
Worse conscripts only have 3 month contracts and can go home at any time before contract expires - right now, some units with conscripts are losing 70% of their conscripts returning home - usually right after they get to the front and lose a few.
