If the Florida governor can get past Donald Trump in 2024, he will prove something important about himself. Ron DeSantis has a Donald Trump problem. How he solves it -- if he can -- will be the first test of an important aspect of presidential character.
Let us assume -- as is widely assumed, but as yet unannounced -- that DeSantis would like to run for president in 2024. Many across the Republican spectrum would like to see him do so. The trick is that DeSantis needs to wrest the Republican nomination away from Trump, either by defeating him or, better still, convincing him not to run. Harder still, he needs to do so in a way that keeps ...

desantis is currently running for reelection for florida governor this year (2022)...
he’s already stated his attention is focused on this year’s election, not a presidential campaign next year...
Quite a bit of military experience.
“I think it is Trump who is virtually unelectable in 2024. I’d vote for him in the general election over a Democrat, but he is almost certainly going to lose if he is the nominee”
You’re willing to gamble by working against Trump.
Don’t say I didn’t try to tell you.
Is Liz’s office paying you to post here?
Like a lot of folks, I love Trump's policies but often cringe when he says stupid things that cost us support. For me, DeSantis is a smarter, better spoken version of Trump who shares the same policies, but will do a better job of getting them enacted.
If DeSantis actually did gather enough support to win the GOP nomination over Trump, that could only happen if Trump's support within the GOP cratered. And if Trump's support within the GOP has cratered, his support among the swing voters necessary to win an election would be almost non-existent.
So if Trump can't win a contested primary, he couldn't have won the general election anyway and we needed someone else. But if Trump does win a contested primary, it shouldn't adversely impact his chances of winning the general election any more than the contested primary hurt him in 2016.
If you D’simpletons don’t stop this ridiculous BS you will soon tarnish Desantis’s bright political future and chances in ‘28.
“More grist for the ludicrous “Trump vs. DeSantis” trope that is keeping so many commentators busy these days.”
Yup. And there are a couple of freepers who try to ignote the phony fire right here.
Don’t fall for it, people!
Eradicating the vote fraud is the ONLY battle.
Not a chance in hell. How about waiting until DeSantis makes a move OR Trump does, or he and Trump come to a meeting of the minds. Any pathetic attempts to 'ponder' this or that to split the base is just bothersome nonsense.
Yes and he is working on it in his state.
How many people here are and have been working on changing voting laws on a national or state level
One of the most unfair aspect of US citizenship is that our state by state voting laws are so different.
example, in some states primaries are so differently handled.
Which is why I'm wondering where DeSantis has been for the last two years on the whole issue, nationally.
His own state is overrun with vote fraud, and he was fortunate to win in 2018.
His military experience with being a lawyer
You have delusions of grandeur. What Freepers say about a preference for Trump or DeSantis isn't going to affect DeSantis' prospects in the slightest. Nobody cares - certainly not enough to somehow blame DeSantis for it.
This can’t be brought up enough. Nothing anyone says on here will change anyone else’s opinion here on who to vote for. Much less anyone that’s not this tiny audience.
You D’simpletons are trying to sow seeds of doubt about Trump. All you are really doing is turning us off to Desantis. If Desantis supporters are as politically stupid as you seem to be then I have to question and revaluate Desantis’s suitability.
I’m sure it’ll really matter than a dozen or so people at most change their mind by some posts on fr about who to vote for.
FR is read by almost every right wing pundit on TV and cable.
I’d have to see a source to believe that.
It is a well known fact the pundits catch up on headlines here and also read the comments. I’ve seen thing posted here today and said on air by a Fox pundit the same night. Rush was a regular reader of FR.
Agree, ideal is Gov. DeSantis to run in 2028. He is the best Governor ever and he has more work to do in Florida. I really like the Florida State Guard being reactivated.
