Science leaders demand crackdown on medical research fraudsters after allegations that pivotal Alzheimer's study contained manipulated data - giving false hope to families and slowing the development of effective treatments

Science leaders are demanding a crackdown on medical research fraudsters, warning that the worst offenders pose a threat to public health and should be handed prison sentences.

And they have also called for academic journals that publish dodgy data to be slapped with hefty fines if they fail to act swiftly when fakes are exposed.

The demands come after bombshell allegations that a pivotal study on the cause of Alzheimer’s disease contained manipulated results, potentially leading other scientists down a blind alley, hindering the development of effective treatments and giving false hope to patients and their families.

It is just the latest in a string of revelations in recent months that have rocked the field of dementia research, and may see top neuroscientists face US government investigations, probes by financial authorities for misuse of public funds and deceiving shareholders, and criminal charges.

In one of the most egregious examples, allegedly falsified data led to patients on a trial risking the side effects of experimental drugs with no chance of seeing any benefit.

Importantly, doubts about some of these studies were raised almost a decade ago

The most recent study to fall under scrutiny, published in 2006, was the first to identify a protein named amyloid beta star 56 as the cause of memory loss in lab mice.

Authored by Dr Sylvain Lesné, a rising star in Alzheimer’s research at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, along with his boss Professor Karen Ashe and colleagues, it went on to be cited in more than 2,000 subsequent studies carried out by other researchers looking for a drug treatment for the devastating illness.

But some experts expressed concern that they were unable to replicate the study – a vital part of the scientific process that helps confirm findings.

In ten years you will see the same headline except mRna will be in place of Alzheimer's.

They will pin it all on Fauci who will conveniently be dead

I have my G-d given immune system that only recently activated and defeated the covid by itself.

I’m better prepared than the vaxxed.

Unlikely re medical protocols. But I recall reading (here at FR) that ED treatment may help to delay/offset.

I also recall two different sources mentioning the formation of new neural pathways as a result of intense study/learning, and the possible mitigation of memory loss. How this affects the hippocampus is beyond my understanding.

FTA

He cites research that suggests up to one in five of the estimated two million medical studies published each year could contain invented or plagiarised results, details of patients who never existed and trials that did not actually take place. He adds the problem is ‘well known about’ in science circles, yet there is a reluctance within the establishment to accept the scale of the problem

Sounds exactly like the fraud that pervades our electorial system as well as the corruption in our government as a whole. It is so massive, no one wants to admit it.

Fraud is what you get when millions of dollars of grant money is at stake.

Science leaders are demanding a crackdown on medical research fraudsters,

Like people who don't know what a woman is?

Like biologist who will not admit that a new human is formed at fertilization?

I think mRNA will have breakthrough results with cancer. You will get cancer and your expert oncologist will recommend the latest cure with a mRNA therapy. However, you, with poisoned thinking about mRNA technology, will refuse . . .

“However, you, with poisoned thinking about mRNA technology, will refuse . . .”

I am on record saying many that I think that mRna Technology may be one of the greatest medical breakthroughs in history.

However, I am certainly not going to be a guinea pig by using a rushed V1.0 novel mRna treatment.

I am so sorry you have been brainwashed by all the propaganda

Drug Reverses Age-Related Mental Decline Within Days UCSF study. We're having our gerontologist checking it out right now.

I fervently hope it's not one of the tainted studies.

Researchers find two FDA-approved drugs that curb symptoms of Alzheimer's disease

And another more recent, and already approved drugs, to boot!

Is there anything that can cure or delay Alzheimer’s

My friend's mom had it and one of her symptoms was repeating the same question many times a day.

I had read about Curcumin and virgin coconut oil helping with Alzheimer's. He started giving it to her and quickly she seemed to be more "here" and quit repeating questions. She eventually got worse, of, course, but it seemed to stave off the progression for a while.

All anecdotal, but worth a try. Look it up.

As usual, the Daily Mail exaggerates for effect.

“… allegedly falsified data led to patients on a trial risking the side effects of experimental drugs with no chance of seeing any benefit.”

After the first thread on this on FR, I looked up the case. The guy faked some data by plagiarizing some photos, leading to more emphasis on this protein than probably warranted. The beta amyloid protein in question is real, but not as significant as the liar said it was. As all the beta amyloid proteins are implicated in the neuron death that causes Alzheimer’s, any experiment that targets any of them is legitimate, and the DM saying “ no chance of seeing any benefit.” is just their attempt to make the story hotter than it really is without actually looking into the research.

I had read about Curcumin and virgin coconut oil helping with Alzheimer's.

I have used Coconut oil for cooking and coconut past as a substitute for butter....Have Turmeric-Curcumin capsules...and Cumin capsules on order.

Use a lot of Curry powder in stews.

I have been protected by the Moderna version of mRNA. I have rode with a friend several times in two weeks. He became positive with COVID. I have not.

You say I have been “brainwashed,” however, I treat that as inaccurate based on my experience.

I had the J&J and got the VID 3 months later - bad. Not bad enough to be hospitalized, but despite pre-existing kidney failure and transplant, I’ve never been so sick. Yet I tested negative - but my symptoms were all too weird. My frickin’ teeth hurt for days. WTF is that?

Not to mention all of the side effects I now have: Bilateral lymphadenopathy (one of my nodes keeps growing to be the size of a tangerine and hurts like fvck), intermittent unknown rheumatic inflammation throughout my body, and I can’t go number 2 anymore without a bowel-prep. You know how much that fvcking sucks?!

I’m 34, BTW. Super duper life ahead for me - what little I have left.

My friend had hurting teeth. He thought is was a sinus infection. Then he tested positive for COVID and had to postpone his dental exam to check on the teeth. At the dentist, he had three teeth pulled. Yikes! I was worried he would blame it on COVID and forget about the dental appointment.
