Most of the 'Fact-Checking' Organizations Facebook Uses in Ukraine Are Directly Funded by Washington
Ron Paul Institute ^ | 8/2/22 | ALAN MACLEOD

ost of the fact-checking organizations Facebook has partnered with to monitor and regulate information about Ukraine are directly funded by the U.S. government, either through the U.S. Embassy or via the notorious National Endowment for Democracy (NED).

In light of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, an information war as bitter as the ground fighting has erupted, and Meta (Facebook’s official name) announced it had partnered with nine organizations to help it sort fact from fiction for Ukrainian, Russian and other Eastern European users. These nine organizations are: StopFake, VoxCheck, Fact Check Georgia, Demagog, Myth Detector, Lead Stories, Patikrinta 15min, Re:Baltica and Delfi.

The problem with this? At least five of the nine organizations are directly in the pay of the United States government, a major belligerent in the conflict. The Poynter Institute is also funded by the NED. Furthermore, many of the other fact-checking organizations also have deep connections with other NATO powers, including direct funding.

“To reduce the spread of misinformation and provide more reliable information to users, we partner with independent third-party fact-checkers globally,” the Silicon Valley giant wrote, adding, “Facebook’s independent third-party fact-checkers are all certified by the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN). The IFCN, a subsidiary of the journalism research organization Poynter Institute, is dedicated to bringing together fact-checkers worldwide.”

*All* “fact check” sites are propaganda with the additional purpose of attempting to cut off debate thru the ruse of appealing to authority. Propaganda, labeled as “fact” is done with the purpose of shutting down other opinions.

Check out the photo credits at the DM story linked above.

Very often the DM’s photos and vid are uncredited, credited to social media, or to Ukrainian interests.

Today there’s a change.

We’ve got photos credited to Getty, AFP, and AP.

But, interestingly, those photos are so unspecific in the info they purport to show the could be from any time and anywhere.

People don’t know how to separate the wheat from the chaff, they are driven by anything: scandalous headlines, gossip, outright fakes — most don’t even think about the accuracy of the information, source, date of creation. Fact checkers are oftn just hired trolls to form public opinion - not check for facts.

BTW - the enemy of mens souls greatest tool is to “Create Doubt”....it doesn’t have to be false to cause people to react.

FWIW, I think what’s going on in Ukraine is a mutually agreed upon noisy occupation for the purpose of bleeding dry US taxpayers.

It’s a scam just like climate change and CoupFlu.

Hot war, my arse.

Ron Paul was right about a whole lot of things 20 years ago.

I am man enough to say I was wrong about him. He was not a kook. In fact, he looks like a modern day Nostradamus if you go back and read the things he wrote and said. The GOP marginalized him for his warnings just as the GOP today tries to marginalize Trump for his “personality”.

Agree completely. The GOP is a closed shop, one that makes an enormous amount of money that is shared among their own. Besides this recent Roe v Wade reversal, I'm hard pressed to think of anything beneficial the GOP has done for average American citizens, since Ronald Reagan.

I will give Newt Gingrich credit for the Contract with America during the Clinton years. That was a good period of legislation and a masterclass in politics. Newt couldn’t control his personal life and that was his downfall but he was the grandmaster speaker for a couple of years even as the GOPe was not happy with him.

I think too many fail to see how powerful that position is even as they understand McCarthy will be a “business as usual” Speaker.
