Citing inflation, Ford hikes EV prices $8.5k, erasing $7.5k EV tax credit in Inflation Reduction Act [GM too - pure coincidence, right?] [Also a lie]

On Aug. 9, just before President Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act into law, Ford announced that due to inflation it will raise the prices of its electric F-150 Lightning pickups between $6,000 and $8,500 — effectively canceling out the $7,500 federal EV tax credit applicable to the vehicles under the $740 billion tax and spending measure. --- According to CNBC, Ford is only the "latest automaker to increase pricing of their newest electric vehicles amid rising inflation and commodity costs," joining General Motors, Rivian Automotive, Lucid and Tesla.

Blood pressure spikes on stories like these as if there is any surprise that entities WILL EXPLOIT opportunities! That is, of course on top of such small niggles as this $7,500 TAX CREDIT is a non-refundable credit. This means that if your Tax Balance is under this credit (and OTHER SUCH Credits), the taxpayer does not get it all!

Next, look at the history of how these IDIOCIES distort the marketplace(s). Remember ObamaCare and the oh too memorable quote of annual savings by the 'D'onkey Party? Guess who saw profit in raising costs to cover the added overhead and perhaps some profit? Same probably applies to colleges where tuitions rise far above inflation because the FEDERAL student loans push off the actual sticker shocks!

Color me DISGUSTED!

LMAO

anyone who wonders why college has gone up so much in price...

THIS is why!

The cost of anything will always be what people are willing and able to pay for it. If the government gives you money for it.. the price will be what the government gave you plus what you were willing to pay for it.

Prices reflect demand more than anything else.
So, if they thing they can charge XYZ, they will charge XYZ, regardless of subsidies. The subsidy just goes straight to profit.

IMHO, the government should NOT be involved in any commercially-applied new technology.
IF that “new technology” can’t stand on it’s own feet and openly compete with existing technology, then it’s not really viable. When govt gets involved in technological exploitation, it distorts open competitiveness and creates a host of corruption and backdoor ‘deals’.

Same thing at colleges.
Several years ago at our annual campus-wide faculty meeting, the university president responded to complaints about skyrocketing tuition rates. He admitted that the reason was federal and state aid. He displayed a chart showing that every time aid went up, the university increased tuition by at least the same amount. That’s why in my 28 years there, tuition went from $2100 a year to $13,300.

Are you saying that Ford is exploiting the tax credit?

Never mind inflation and the increase cost to make a car?

Seems to me the primary blame goes to our government spending money it doesn’t have, the EV take credits themselves and the inflation caused by all of that.

Or. Ford realized that the price of it’s electric truck was far below the cost of profitable production.

Come on people. It says right in the article...

"Ford and GM told Fox Business that their price increases were not related to the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act."

You believe them, right? Right?

The “government,” meaning the politicians in office, never do anything for “the people.” They always do things for themselves. While “the people” might give them few dollars, corporations can arrange for bribes. Those bribes are nothing so crass as cash. It’s money to a PAC, which then supports them with advertising.

Loss of market share and revenue is the result of inability to compete. This loss of market is a fact in spite of government efforts to protect the UAW

“Or. Ford realized that the price of it’s electric truck was far below the cost of profitable production.”

This is just another case of govt force used to make people pay for something whether they choose to use it or not. The buyers of the product pay the normal price of acquisition, the non-buyers pay a tax for not buying.

* I think EV's are cool, and I get the engineering challenges.
* You should want one, because it's a premium product, not have it forced down your throats.
* Team LGB admits they may wave the US "content" rules for EV's if we can't meet them, aka CCP batteries kiddies.
* With the "Comrade Let's go forward" mindset and pretty much letting the piston heads go, what is their "Plan B" if this all doesn't work?

Those will be bought by wealthy farmers with the subsidy money they get for not growing crops to drive to the coffee shop every morning where they talk with their buddies about how the country is going to hell.
