On Friday’s “PBS NewsHour,” New York Times columnist David Brooks said the Biden White House pointing to Republican members of Congress who got Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans forgiven to respond to criticism of its student loan program is wrong because the PPP loans were designed to preserve jobs and were designed to be forgiven, while student loans “are things people signed promising to pay them back.” He also stated that the response lacked class, and “if you’re going to be unclassy, be smart about it. Don’t be dumb about it if you’re not classy.”

It may be dumb but every person I know defending the loan forgiveness is pointing to ppp as a rationale for the pre election vote buying scam.
How sharp does the crease in Jao’s brain look?
When government shuts down business and you can’t go to work then that is the outcome. However, government should have never forced businesses to shut down in the first place…
BTW, PPP was abused as well. 76% of employees never saw any extra money. Also, Biden is “forgiving” debt for votes and to further destruct work ethic and responsibility in this country.
PPP loans were meant to keep ordinary people employed, not to enrich business owners....which is how it is now being portrayed.
PPP loans were bribes designed to keep people from protesting the lockdowns.
And people took the bribes rather than fight.
PPP loans became corrupt also, as many couldn’t get them (mostly small business owners), and many got them for fraudulent reasons. An unwatched ship and another boondoggle for for many as well as the taxpayer in the long run.
Take out one “for” above. My bad.
PPP loans weren’t about keeping people employed any more than CoupFlu policy was about protecting public health.
Those loans were bribes to quell protest about the lockdown.
And the bribes worked.
The idiots on social media are lapping it up like a dog.
I was concerned about the US for years, but I thought I was being dramatic. I now fear for the US because people, in general, are stupid or willingly blind.
Funny. No one talks about the EIDL in which you pay back the loan.
The PPP loans were to make sure people received a paycheck when the shutdown first started and people were terrified.
This reminded me of the quote regarding “largesse from the public treasury”, here in full:
“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through this sequence: From bondage to spiritual faith; From spiritual faith to great courage; From courage to liberty; From liberty to abundance; From abundance to selfishness; From selfishness to apathy; From apathy to dependence; From dependence back into bondage.”
― Alexander Fraser Tytler
I’m pretty sure we’re approaching the final scene in this movie. But at least we’re hitting above the average.
Seems that about half the PPP money was lost to fraud. What a great precedent to jusify the next round of theft.
Most people are unaware they weren’t meant to be paid back. It makes the PPP program even more of a waste of money then.
