Park rangers have been carrying guns "for their safety" since 2009.
Park rangers shot two bears in 2014, and another in 2016, in Jasper park, because the bears were dangerous.
When seconds count, Canadian park rangers are only minutes (or hours) away.
He probably shot too soon. Should have made loud noises first.
Well this is simple - park rangers are more important than hikers and should be armed! /s
Racist Canadians.
or days
We need a “right to arm bears” meme here.
[[Carrying a firearm in a national park]]
But it’s not illegal for criminals to carry, or for wildlife to carry (teeth and claws)- only illegal for,law abiding citizens to carry for self defence evidently.
He fired a shot well, within hearing range of,the bear. Usually that is enough to drive off a black bear, unless the bear has crossed a line and decided to will not be deterred.
But if it were two white bears, it would be ok...
The bear was closing in on the food contained in the hikers pack
Polar Bears? Then obviously it would be global warming...er climate change...er climate emergency....er stand by for the next label they come up with.
Remember a few months ago when Justin Trudeau said he did not believe Canadians had the right to self defense?
Apparently that’s the WEF line. Emmanuel Macron said the same in France.
They think you don’t have the most basic right - one that precedes human civilization - the right to survive.
As the bears in Jasper National Park, Canada, are not hunted, they have developed a population of "problem bears" which are not afraid of humans.
From not being afraid of humans, it is only one step to testing to see if those human bags of meat make suitable prey.
Not many black bears attack humans; but some do. It almost always comes from a population of bears that do not fear humans.
Some are wilderness bears which never saw a human; some are bears which have become habituated to humans.
Exactly. They do not believe in natural rights.
They believe in power, where those in power decide whether you should live or die.
And hit him on the nose with the gun butt.....
In addition to the right to survive, a person has the right to eliminate one who denies his right to survive.
Labrador has aggressive black bears too as does some island. Likely due to not being hunted much or at all, and becoming used to folks like you mentioned.
Bears will also get aggressive when food is scarce and they are starving, or if they are old and can’t hunt like, they used to, or are sick. Most bears are cautious, but in those 4 cases they lose their sense of caution, and become aggressive out of necessity, but it usually goes agaisnt their nature to do so
Anyone else think it was a mistake to waste that first shot rather than just yelling???
Had thatnhappen to,some women while, they were out hiking not too far from where I live.a small black Bear followed them all the way back to their car, and according to one of the woman got close enough that she had to “swat the bear away”, but who knows if she was telling the truth abput swatting at the bear or not.
