Betsy Devos rips Biden student debt plan as ‘100% illegal,’ says power rests with Congress
The Washington Times ^ | August 30, 2022 | Tom Howell Jr.

Former Education Secretary Betsy DeVos is ripping President Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan as unfair, politically motivated and “100% illegal.”

“The president has no authority to just wave a magic wand and suddenly forgive billions and billions of dollars in student loan debt,” she told Fox News late Monday. “Congress has the power of the purse, not the president.”

...

“It is totally unfair to all of those who have not taken out student loans,” she said. “And for those students who faithfully have been paying their student loans down, how does that work for them?”

Ms. DeVos also said the plan is unfair to military members who served the nation to gain education benefits and seems like a bid to attract young voters in a mid-term year.

“It is fundamentally unfair. It is wrong,” she said. “And not only that, but it doesn’t solve any problem. All it does is mean a political payoff to voters that Biden and his administration hope to attract in November.”

The plan could spark legal challenges from those who say Mr. Biden exceeded his authority.

I don’t think anybody on the Dem side is particularly worried about legal wrangling.
Right now the goal is to get that 10 grand credited to the accounts before Nov 8, 2022.

Unconstitutional since when has the Executive had power of the purse? But then, since when has the D’s been concerned with the Constitution?

It seems that due process would lean towards a Bill passed in Congress.. So continues the tyranny.

DeVos was one of the cowardly cabinet secretaries who resigned during the final days of the Trump administration. Who cares what she has to say?

Everything you said is true, but what can be done to stop this Soviet steamroller?

"And for those students who faithfully have been paying their student loans down, how does that work for them?”

They'll have to pay twice. First for their own loans and now for somebody else's loan.

I want the left to explain to me how it's legal for Biden to write a check for $300Billion to $1Trillion (depending on whose estimate you use),
after screaming it was illegal for Trump to spend $4Billion on the border fence.

If Biden can open the Treasury to fund his own projects, why couldn't Trump?

Never mind, I'm asking to be BS'd again.

Might as well ask why they raided Trump's house and not Hillary's.

"THIS IS DIFFERENT", you will hear.

Yeah it is, alright.

Didn’t Obama give Iran a giant pallette of money on plane in the middle of the night?

Betsy Devos says she will not run for Michigan governor in 2022
By Thomas Beaumont
August 11, 2021
Associated Press
https://www.fox2detroit.com/news/betsy-devos-says-she-will-not-run-for-michigan-governor-in-2022

[Excerpt:]
Despite four years on former President Donald Trump’s Cabinet, DeVos quit her post a day after the deadly U.S. Capitol siege in January, blaming the defeated president’s false claims that the 2020 election was stolen for inflaming tensions as Congress prepared to certify the 2020 presidential election.

“There is no mistaking the impact your rhetoric had on the situation, and it is the inflection point for me,” she said in her letter of resignation.

“It is fundamentally unfair. It is wrong,” she said. “And not only that, but it doesn’t solve any problem.”

You know who was Secretary of Education for FOUR YEARS, and didn’t solve ANY problems? Betsy DeVos. No push for freedom of speech, No protections for Conservative students, No fight against race based hiring or admissions.

This is the justification they are claiming. Seems specious to me. Depends on a national emergency when currently such emergency does not exist. If it were up to me, I would say it is bogus, but they ARE claiming a legal precedent, just not a very good one.

Yep. Deposit before 8 November. Loan forgiveness is usually taxable so they will owe $2,000 on that $10,000 on April 15th. Neat trick: they get the deposit, owe taxes on it, a federal judge declares the whole thing unconstitutional so they must repay the money. If they already spent it they are now $10,000 worse off than before!

Oh, yes. I did mention taxes. The IRS will assess taxes on the money and not rescind the assessment just because the whole mess was not kosher. So now they are really $12,000 worse off than before.

Did I mention state taxes as well?

It’s called the Imperial Presidency, and it set a trend for the executive branch in the states to violate statutory law to rig the 2020 Election.

Bidens XO specifically declares the money tax free.
It is taxable in 13 states (currently) but I assume there will be a lot of political pressure to change that.
