Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) is maintaining a 7-point lead over his Democratic opponent Beto O’Rourke, according to a new poll released on Wednesday. The University of Houston-Texas Southern University survey found that 49 percent of likely voters supported Abbott, while 42 percent supported O’Rourke. The results of Wednesday’s survey track with other recent polls. An August poll from the Dallas Morning News and the University of Texas at Tyler also showed Abbott holding a 7-point lead over O’Rourke. Support for the two candidates breaks down sharply along partisan lines, with “virtually every Texas Democrat” intending to vote for O’Rourke and “virtually every Texas Republican” planning to vote for Abbott, according to the latest poll. Abbott’s and O’Rourke’s likely voter bases also represent vastly different demographics. While the current governor was more popular among older white voters, O’Rourke was more popular among younger voters of color. In the latest poll, Abbott led the Democratic candidate by 29 points among white voters, but O’Rourke led Abbott by 57 points among Black voters and 15 points among Latino voters. The silent generation/baby boomer cohort and Generation X favored Abbott by 28 points and 11 points, respectively, while millennials and Generation Z favored O’Rourke by 21 points and 23 points, according to the poll.

Here in Austin, which is politically like San Francisco, there are plenty of “Beto” signs. I have yet to see one pro-Abbott sign. Hopefully, Abbott trounces O’Rourke on November 8th.
That assumes the poll accurate. I wouldn't assume that.
7 points these days is a mandate, a landslide.
O’Dork reminds me of Buttplug the fag
Yup. Same with the OZ vs festerman race. How is that assclown even on the ballot? I did hear that the Oz folks are finally using the shotgun/black jogger incident festerman was involved in.
White got 42% in 2010 (a massive wave year).
Davis only got 38% in 2014 despite the press saying that she was going to win.
Valdez got 42% in 2018.
42% is about what a generic Democrat will get in Texas.
Here in the suburbs north of Austin, I’ve seen one Abbott sign: in front of a gun store. There are 4-5 Beto signs in the adjoining neighborhoods plus one next door with retire (in their 60s) *NATIVE* Texans. I’ve seen an equal number of Mothers Against Abbott signs. Short of a revolution, the suburbs in Texas will start falling soon enough.
Booty-Gig at least got elected once. Has Beta ever won an election?
Oh, and the 2014 polls for Davis about this time were almost IDENTICAL to what Abbott is polling now:
Abbott 49% - 40% over Davis in September of 2014.
He went on to win with 59% of the vote.
So SlowJoe ran 4 points better than a generic Dem in 2020?
We must win.
We’ll see how it plays out...
I have a hard time believe this will be a single digit race when its said and done...
I will be shocked if Beta Boy gets anywhere near 42% of the vote on election day...
“That assumes the poll accurate”
From the hill? Pffft.
Sometimes I wonder why people bother posting their propaganda here.
Is the Non-Mexican Beto still suffering from Monkey Pox?
Wasn’t O’Rourke a congressman, so he was elected to that office?
He’s one of those people, recalling the 2020 Democrat primary debates, I wondered, who are some of these people, and why are they on the debate stage? I thought of him belonging with Marianne Williamson and Andrew Yang, thinking, what have these people ever done in life, which makes them think they can be president?
Especially if “The Hill” rag is reporting it.
Yes, I have been seeing a crapload of Oz ads in PA blasting Fatterman....
Also have to to back to 1990 to find a governors race that was a 2 way race where a republican ended under 55% (GWB got only 53% of the vote).
This poll is showing Abbot with 49 to Beto’s 42... saying 9% are either undecided or third party... We’ll see how it plays out, but I really don’t think Abbot is going to underperform history and wind up under 55%
I agree....How are these radicals even that close? I guess it goes to show public school indoctrination works. 20 years ago it would be Abbott 70-Beto 30
OZ is a terrible candidate, trying to compare OZ to Abbot is an apple and oranges comparison.
