Oberlin College is finally paying out the full $36.59 million in court-ordered defamation damages to a mom-and-pop bakery that it slandered as racist. The leftist school had previously fought desperately to avoid paying the judgment.
The move by the school to finally pay what it owes the bakery comes after the Ohio Supreme Court refused to hear its appeal, according to a report by WKYC.
Oberlin College had been ordered to pay Gibson’s Bakery $33 million for defamation damages in 2019 after Meredith Raimondo — now an ex-dean — orchestrated a woke mob into slandering the family as racists for calling the police on three black students for allegedly shoplifting a bottle of wine.
The Ohio college reacted by appealing the ruling against them. Meanwhile, Gibson’s Bakery struggled to survive after Oberlin College students and Raimondo falsely accused the business of racism.
Now, the Ohio Supreme Court has declined to hear Oberlin’s appeal of the judgment awarded to the bakery, and the college is finally paying up. The total amount represents the judgment, plus attorney fees, and accumulated interest, the college said.
“We are disappointed by the Court’s decision. However, this does not diminish our respect for the law and the integrity of our legal system,” Oberlin College said. “This matter has been painful for everyone. We hope that the end of the litigation will begin the healing of our entire community.”

ROTFL. Looks like Oberlin is going to need some of Jo Jo’s “Student” loan money itself. Ha!
So, will Gibson’s Bakery close up and move out? After lawyers (rhymes with liars) fees they may have to keep working. LOL!
Good news.
Thanks.
This is a drop in the bucket for Oberlin.
Pocket change.
Surprised they didn’t pay up in rolls of pennies
“Surprised they didn’t pay up in rolls of pennies”
There is a coin shortage
Yup
Typical legal stall tactics
exactly! every time a liberal slanders us, disrupts our business or god forbid harms us, we need to sue anyone and everyone involved or who commented upon it against us, or encouraged it before or afterwards.
A lot of bread for a bakery.
The headline seems misleading. Has the payment actually been received by the palintiffs? The text of the article never says so. The court ordering payment and some Oberlin hacks saying they have reached the end of the legal process is NOT the final act.
I paid the $660 water bill at the city in pennies.
There was a leaking toilet valve while I was in the Hospital for a month and in an induced coma.
The city refused to adjust the bill in any way. Most municipalities will help with some type of adjustment. NOT THESE JERKS !!
I’m so glad to be back on a private well !!!
From a WaPo article that discussed the judgement:
“$30 million is not a trivial sum for a college. Oberlin’s $1.2 billion endowment, large-ish for a liberal arts college, probably generates 4%-5% of that for spending every year. The damages and attorneys’ fees will be felt by everyone on campus, at least for a time.”
The WaPo article also emphasized that libelous statements against private individuals need not be issued with malicious intent for legal action to succeed. For the WaPo, this was an amazingly fair and balanced article.
Ah, well, a man can dream.
There go the tuition rates.
When Oberlin’s lawyer argued that stealing from whites was a “rite of passage”, I wanted this college to burned to the ground. This is how societies excuse outright theft.
No apology from Oberlin.
