Saturday, I posted on the new Ukrainian offensive in Kharkiv Oblast that has liberated several hundred square miles of territory and threatens to unravel the entire Russian invasion;
(snip)
The main effort in yesterday’s report was Kupiansk, a critical rail and highway node on the Oskil river. That city is firmly in Ukrainian hands. As I noted yesterday, this places the main railroad line from Russian forces in Ukraine to Russia within range of Ukrainian tube artillery.
The Ukrainian offensive in Kharkiv Oblast shows some signs of slowing down, unlike the Russian withdrawal.
But progress continues. I’d thought the Oskil River/reservoir running south from Kupiansk might mark a line of advance for this phase of the operation. New reports indicate the Ukrainians have vaulted the Oskil River and are in hot pursuit of the fleeing Russians with the possibility of re-conquering the fake Luhansk People’s Republic created by the Russians in 2014.
In the north, Ukraine has successfully reestablished control of all of its territory up to its border with Russia.
(snip)
The Ukrainians have not advanced on the border crossing point between Pisky (UKR) and Logachevka (RUS), which is basically where the rightmost part of the blue-shaded area touches the Russian border. My guess is that they have no interest in stopping the flight of pro-Russian residents. It also looks like the Russians aren’t crazy about admitting them.

There’s a number of Russian officials, military leaders, and
the troops on the ground who think this was a very poorly
thought out operation.
There’s no clear cut threat. There was nothing to protect
Russia from.
So the troops are tromping to retreat. The Ukrainians are
simply walking along behind them reclaiming territory.
If Russia goes home, there’s not going to be major negative
repercussions for Russia. It will have stopped the bleeding.
This was a nonsensical operation from day one.
Putin may have done good things for Russia in years past,
but he’s not doing great things for the nation now.
The Russian people deserve better.
Cutoff Russian troops in Kherson currently in surrender negotiations. Rumored to be from Russia’s 1st Army Corps. Asking for 3rd party humanitarian guarantees.
I think there are three things proven by this ‘war’:
1. Whoever wrote the invasion script probably didn’t grasp that Putin really meant to invade....not just ‘talk’ about invading.
2. All this effort to farm-out production of things outside of Russia for the past thirty years, has put Russia in a difficult position because of the sanctions. An example...the high-quality ballbearings for freight train traffic, wasn’t something Russia can produce. Last week, some analyst looked at sitting freight cars...probably ten-percent of the cars are waiting on ballbearings.
3. Even if they conclude the war today...rebuilding the Army will probably take twenty years and soak-up most of the national income (once the Oligarch folks take their cut).
Really is a sad day, that it is so difficult to know who to believe, as their are propaganda machines at work to make us all believe a certain narrative. My own contacts in the Ukraine suggest that MOST of the news coming out of the Ukraine is pretty hpyed up and distorted.. hope these reports are reliable.
The Usurper Cabal will step up and take credit.(and 10%)
The Russian forces are just lying in wait, for the Ukrainians to walk into their pincers, then they will close and destroy them.
Yeah, right. Shifting front, but essentially a stagnant war, a meat grinder chewing up both sides, and like the Spanish “Civil” War of 1936, a means for both sides to test out their various strategies and weaponry before actual confrontation in the Second World War. Prelude to Armageddon and the Apocalypse, things are already in motion.
LOL, shifting front, stagnant? What took months for the Russians to incrementally gain, they have lost in a week around Kharkiv and they are still running.
Map of recent Ukrainian liberations around Kharkiv frontline:
Not for the U.S., NATO, Ukraine, or anyone else who'd like to see this be the last bit of Russian military aggression inflicted on the world for the next 75 or so years.
For Russian expansionists, I'm sure it is sad. But why should we care about them?
We haven't seen brilliant tactics like that since ISIS overan the Iraqi army and when the Taliban inherited all our Afghanistan equipment.
Exactly... A large portion of the Russian forces are poorly trained conscripts who didn’t want to be there in the first place, and now — under the gun — are retreating as fast as they can.
Damned right the Russian people deserve better... the sooner they can off Putin, the better.
“Damned right the Russian people deserve better.”
Im not sure. I kinda believe you get the government you deserve.
So you believe we live in a perfect world?
Refreshing.
Not reality based but personally satisfying.
Turns out, that is a repair depot for that eq.
“A large portion of the Russian forces are poorly trained conscripts who didn’t want to be there in the first place, and now”
The collapse has been so total you also have to wonder about the leadership. Has Russia’s endemic corruption played a role? A few million in a Russian general’s Swiss bank account may be an easy way to gain territory.
I have to agree with you. I would say the majority of the Russian troops are not in favor of this war and it is showing on the battlfield.
Yes, thats what happens in such a retreat. Thats how the Germans lost most of their armor on the Western Front. It broke down and had to be abandoned before it could be repaired.
In WWII Allies bombed the ball bearing factories in Germany.
Those that do not know history are doomed to repeat it ....
Plenty of pictures of abandoned Russian equipment with Ukrainians soldiers examining them.

The Ukrainian 25th Airborne Brigade captured two Msta-SM2 152mm self-propelled howitzers in #Kharkiv Oblast, along with another logistics vehicle; one of the SPG was already seen
