A former Nevada deputy attorney general who was tied to the infamous Mustang Ranch brothel has been arrested in the brutal murder of a teenage girl 50 years ago in Hawaii.
Tudor Chirila Jr., 77, was arrested in Reno and has been charged with second-degree murder after DNA evidence linked him to the fatal stabbing of 19-year-old Nancy Anderson in 1972.
Anderson — who had moved to the island state after graduating high school in Michigan a year earlier — was stabbed more than 60 times inside her Waikiki apartment on Jan. 7, 1972, police said.

- In 2020, the Honolulu Police Department enlisted Parabon Nano Labs, a company based in Virginia, USA, to assist with a DNA comparison to identify Anderson’s killer. In December 2021, investigators received a tip that he could be a suspect.
- In April 2022, the Newport Beach Police Department obtained a DNA sample from his son John, who is based in Newport Beach, California. The sample identified John as the biological child of the person whose DNA was found at the crime scene where Anderson was murdered.
- On September 6, 2022, the Reno Police Department executed a search warrant and collected a DNA sample directly from him at his apartment in Reno.
- On September 8, 2022, he survived after attempting to commit suicide.
- On September 12, 2022, the Honolulu Police Department confirmed him as the person who fatally stabbed Anderson via DNA that was found on a towel in her bedroom.
- On September 14, 2022, Reno Police Department officers arrested him in Reno.

Anderson had reportedly been stabbed several times on her sternum, chest, abdomen, and thighs. Her roommate, Jody Spooner, reportedly found Anderson’s body. She reportedly sustained 63 stab wounds, with her cause of death listed as “hemorrhage due to stab wound of heart.”
