Once McCain’s party, Arizona GOP returns to far-right roots (back to Goldwater)

Simmering discontent among a segment of Arizona Republicans over John McCain’s famous penchant for bucking his party boiled over in the winter of 2014 with the censure of the longtime U.S. senator.

McCain’s allies responded with an all-out push to reassert control over the Arizona Republican Party. Censure proponents were ousted or diminished, and McCain went on to defeat his far-right challenger in a blowout during the 2016 primary.

Less than a decade later, the right wing forces that McCain marginalized within the Arizona GOP are now in full control, with profound implications for one of the nation’s most closely matched battlegrounds. Arizona Republicans have traded McCain for Donald Trump.

“We drove a stake in the heart of the McCain machine,” Kari Lake, making a dramatic stabbing gesture, said in a speech days after she won the Republican primary for governor in early August.

Lake, a well-known former television news anchor, has delighted segments of the state’s GOP base that have long been at odds with their party’s establishment and want their leaders to confront Democrats, not compromise with them.

She draws large, enthusiastic crowds that are unusually energized for a midterm election. Her fans erupt in rapturous applause when she takes a shot at the media or pledges to repel the “invasion” at the southern border.

“She’s for border control. She’s a MAGA person. She is fighting the establishment. And that, to me, is enough,” said Bob Hunt, a Republican in Tucson who attended a Lake rally this summer.

McCain succeeded Goldwater and turned into Arlen Specter.>>> And proceeded to take bribes from a banker.

Thank you I remember it like it was yesterday. I worked for Goldwater and 64 it was an eye-opening experience. The Democrats are trying the same thing they did to Goldwater in 64 and that is separate the “extremist” from the rest of the republican party. Unfortunately it worked but today it’s not gonna play so well because Joe Biden is a terrible president

In one of his last defiant decisions, he gave a dramatic thumbs down vote to kill legislation that would have repealed former President Barack Obama’s health care law.

It wasn’t defiance. It was outright lies and treachery. He did this after spending a campaign promising he would vote Obama Care out. It was fraud perpetrated on the voters.

If the AP wants to “blame” someone for the re-emergence of the right in Arizona, they can start right there with their “maverick”…

The delusional radical Left and its minions like JONATHAN J. COOPER and All Propaganda Fake News see Patriots and America's Free Constitutional Republic as "far right".

Don't forget, Obama officially radicalized the Left. Before Obama, The Left was very cautious about showing itself to be anti-American. Sleepy Joe's Administration looks a lot like what Obama's third term would have looked like given the chance.

See Obama? He's right over there behind the scenes pulling the levers for Sleepy Joe.

Yes, I also remember that election. I was in high school and that was the election that made me politically aware.

I also learned later about Bill Moyers and the daisy ad. He did not design it, but had it designed. It likely cost Goldwater the election.

Barry Goldwater would have been America’s first POTUS of Jewish heritage.

His ancestors Jews in Poland persecuted by Russia.

Yet CBS News had the audacity to say that when Goldwater visited an old Air Force buddy in Germany in the summer of 1964 commenting about “the good old days” that Goldwater was endorsing Nazi Germany.

The smearing of Conservatives as “Haters” and “Anti-Semites” continues to this day.

Doug Mastriano for Governor here in PA is hit with the “Anti-Semite” *hit almost weekly.

The idea is that Mastriano is after his opponent who happens to be Jewish.

It never ends.

The article is typical leftist lies and misdirection but, one could only hope that Arizonians are coming to their senses. If so, then other states could follow suit. Maybe a revolution?

A million or so of us peasants are fed up with the Marquis running over our children?

One can only hope.

“Barry Goldwater would have been America’s first POTUS of Jewish heritage.”

Thers’s a famous story of Goldwater being denied entry into a golf club because he was half-Jewish. So he said “well, then let me just play 9 holes!”

Haha

McCain could never have gotten in power or stayed in power without the support of the media machine.

At one point, McCain, when talking about the media, said the media was his base.

McCain is a poster child for the way the media controlled politics in this country for decades.

I regret to this day that I was too young to vote for Barry Goldwater in 1964. You had to be 21 back then.

I was visiting MN a month ago.
Its hard to believe but Minneapolis is now like Berkeley, CA.
Filled with brainless activists who are only tools of the ruling class.

Perhaps it was age-related dementia, but as I recall Goldwater lost his way in his final years and became a McCain-type Republican.

Conservatives aren’t moving farther right, it just looks that way to Progressives who are moving left at high speed.

Ah, yes—Jonathan J. Cooper . . . not only an AP hack but his work also appears in “The People’s World—Continuing the Work of The Daily Worker”. Jonathan likes to throw around the term “right wing” even as he shills for the far left. Go figure.

Yeah, because honoring the U. S. Constitution is far right.
Thinking men and women make up the human race, is another
example. Thinking introducing toddlers to homosexual and
transgender concepts is child abuse, is another. Thinking
people should be charged for misdemeanors and put an end
to smash and grab is another. Thinking burning down
business districts, looting, and rioting are serious crimes
is another. Thinking all people were created equal and
that any criminal behavior should be treated as such no
matter the race, is another. Thinking kids need a mom AND
dad in the home to receive a decent upbringing is another.
And last but not least, thinking that singling one race
out to be denigrated daily in our schools, is racism.

Compare a group that agrees with these things to areas
where the powers that be don’t.

In other words, wake up!

This is middle of the road reality, not a far stretch
of anything at all negative.
