The White Citizens’ Council in 1962 was 100% democrat. In that year MLK was a Republican - so was Rosa Parks.

I remember a comment by a typical democRAT / KKK back when the TV miniseries Roots was a big hit. Kunta Kinta was the main character. He stated he had taped the miniseries, and was having his democRAT KKK buddies over to watch it backwards, from freedom to slavery. As I recall, then - as now - going north to the blue state culture was a big disappointment. Locals in the north wanted nothing to do with the newcomers that didn't look like them.
