The Ukies convinced the Ruskies that they would attack in the Kherson front, and the Ruskies took the bait and moved troops to Kherson, weakening the Kharkiv front. The Ukies took full advantage of the situation. So now the Ukies are fighting where the Ruskie supply lines are shortest and have the advantage, while simply shelling in Kherson where the Ruskie supply lines are longest and also have the challenge of crossing the Dnieper. Obviously, the Ukies have the initiative now, in large part to Putin's arrogance and stupidity. Putin is running the Ruskie military now and he is making stupid decisions.
