RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Brazil's top two presidential candidates were neck-and-neck late Sunday in a highly polarized election that could determine if the country returns a leftist to the helm of the world's fourth-largest democracy or keeps the far-right incumbent in office for another four years.

The race pits incumbent President Jair Bolsonaro against his political nemesis, leftist former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. There are nine other candidates, but their support pales to that for Bolsonaro and da Silva.

Read the sixth word of the headline you just posted very carefully. It will happen at the end of the month.

FWIW—appears can be scrapped. The distance to 50% is mathematically impossible to bridge with less than 3% of the vote outstanding. If the trends continue, it will be 48.2% or so to about 43.5%.

GOTV and anti-fraud efforts will be crucial.

They go to a runoff. Bolsonaro had been down in the polls by 10-15 percent to the leftist Luna whom the US papers love. Trump spoke to Brazilians on behalf of Bolsonaro on Saturday; I don’t know if that made a difference or as in the US< the polls were just slanted, but its about a 4.5 percent difference now with no way that Lula gets the needed majority.

I don’t know why this election is so interesting to everybody. Big deal. We need to concentrate on our own problems. We are stuck our nose into everything.

The peasants and criminals vote for socialism, and when their society collapses, will seek asylum in the USA.

Ballsy will have a fair shot in the runoff since most who voted for “other” candidates will trend to Ballsy or not vote at all.

Leftist media worldwide has been saying Lulu would win this vote in the first round.

The same people in the USA who are targeting the New GOP have been targeting Brazil to drag it back to Socialism.
If we an hang on to Brazil, they have to fight on multiple fronts.

Fewer leftist governments around the world mean fewer ‘refugees’ (economic migrants) for us.

Because China is interested in Brazil. Because Brazil accounts for over 50% of the GDP of South America. Because as goes Brazil, so goes South America. Etc etc

Well, then according to some here, we should want China (CCP) to get what it wants there - for the cause of “antiglobalism” and “multipolarity.”

The right wing dominated Congressional elections. Apparently Bolsonaro is just disliked personally.
