The 26-year-old man convicted of killing retired St. Louis Police Captain David Dorn was sentenced to life in prison without parole on Wednesday.
Stephan Cannon’s sentencing comes after a jury convicted him in July of fatally shooting Dorn in June 2020. The 77-year-old was responding to a burglary alarm at a friend’s pawn shop during a night of Black Lives Matter rioting when Cannon shot him.
Cannon was convicted in July on all of felony charges he faced, including first-degree murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, stealing $750 or more, unlawful possession of a firearm, and three counts of armed criminal action.
Dorn’s widow, Ann Wood-Dorn, has said her husband would regularly respond when Lee’s Pawn & Jewelry’s burglar alarm was triggered. On the night of his death — June 2, 2020 — Dorn was defending the shop from looters around 2:30 a.m. when he was fatally shot.
Cannon was one of the robbers Dorn confronted before he was murdered.
His death was live-streamed on Facebook Live. During the 13-minute-long video that circulated online, a young man can be heard saying, “Oh my God, cuz … They just killed this old man at the pawn shop over some TVs … c’mon, man, that’s somebody’s granddaddy.”
Attorney Marvin Teer said Cannon fired ten shots at Dorn as he arrived at the scene and fired off warning shots to stop the looters, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

Good
Shame the officer was lost, though
Joy Reid has been vindicated!!! The looter was black!!!
Agreed.
I wonder if that guy realizes that Soros won’t be spending
the time in prison for him.
A whole lot of incredibly stupid people out there.
He deserves life. Probably thought he would get away with it because of “social justice”.
He deserves death
He deserves death, but I guess we don’t do that anymore.
And they all vote Democrat time after time after time.
The strong law & order Democrats keep apace. They’ve flipped on Law & Order in the past couple months. I’m surprised the disgusting St. Louis DA even pressed charges in this case.
You’d almost think there was an election coming up with all these pro Law & Order Dems crawling out of the woodwork.
Removing the death penalty was a grave fault in America's devolution toward total destruction.
As a fictional convicted killer said on a show I just watched last night, life in prison is a fiction because a lot can happen over a few short years such as deaths of witnesses, retractions of incriminating statements and changes of evidence processing.
(as Michigan withdrawing cases already completed when a flaw was found showing the labs mistook the presence of some legal CBD drinks and powders in the blood for illegal marijuana in car crash deaths. Another group of convictions was upended by the chain of evidence being contaminated by human error. Everybody out of prison.)
Wonderful news under the circumstances.
Death was the most appropriate sentence.
Yep...
What’s more, they remain registered as a Democrat.
Should just hand um until dead...Save a lot of $$$
Amazing and unconvincing that Dems are no longer soft on crime.
But how will the Squad and the Black Caucus in Congress explain or go along with that? Decarceration of blacks in prison to be off the agenda, stop and frisk now okay, questioning black drivers for driving while black now okay, police brutality a myth? How will that divide the Dems now?
This is a tragic, sad story. My how the world has changed. The wrong person got killed. Crabs in a bucket.
I want every rioter/looter during the 2020 “summer of love” brought to justice. I am sick and tired of “January 6”, because Democrats know that’s the only thing going for them, other than abortion for the midterms. Justice for all means everyone, and I want everyone who supported BLM during 2020 done the same as this person!
He deserves death, but I guess we don’t do that anymore.
RIP Captain Dorn.
spot on....
