Biden pardons thousands of people convicted of marijuana possession, orders review of federal pot laws

POINTS: President Joe Biden pardoned all those convicted on prior federal charges, or convicted in the District of Columbia, of simple marijuana possession.

Biden called on governors to follow suit and pardon those convicted on similar state charges.

He has also instructed Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra and Attorney General Merrick Garland to begin reviewing how marijuana is classified under federal drug laws.

Guessing these convictions that are being pardoned are actually not that simple. I suspect most of these possessions were either a third strike after two more serious convictions, or were not one or two ounces of MJ, but of drug amounts in the trafficking range, or some other factor that puts a lie to the spin.

I think he has it assbackwards.

The legislative branch needs to change the laws, the FDA needs to change the classification (marijuana is currently a Schedule I controlled substance, federally illegal to possess or use), before he starts issuing blank pardons for people who violated federal laws his handlers don’t agree with.

I’m pretty sure the swearing in oath that the politicians take when assuming office, doesn’t include an “opt-out” provision for the laws they don’t agree with. Personally, I’m not a fan of legalizing any drugs, but I am a fan of the Constitution and the Constitutional processes.

When the Washington legislature was getting ready to decriminalize pot, one of them asked an aid find out how inmates there were in the state correctional facilities for marijuana. Out of 17,000 in the system, one was there for marijuana. They legalized it anyway and still cheered about how decriminalization would relieve congestion in the state’s prisons. The rats are shameless.

Yep. It’s also considered a “gateway drug” to harder stuff by many folks.
In addition to the crime increase, it also takes its toll on the general workforce. Getting reliable people that will come to work on time and stay focused on what their job is becomes more difficult where this stuff is legalized. There’s always additional “unintended consequences” to this kind of BS, but a RAT just doesn’t get it or even care.
